Dallas rules out Hate Crime in Murder Case

I could be totally wrong here, but some part of me has always had an issue with the term "hate crime".  If my life is threatened I am not any less afraid of the perp because of his race, religion and creed. Whether it is some group of New Jersey Bikers like yours truly or a mob of religious fanatics after me, I am still just as dead. Naive for me to say maybe ? But it is right up there with "Black Lives Matter" and now "Blue Lives Matter" to me. Anyhow:

Texas police rule out hate crime in killing of Iraqi migrant

Police in Dallas, Texas, have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of an Iraqi migrant, but have ruled out the possibility of a hate crime.

Police say 17-year-old Nykerion Nealon shot Ahmed Al-Jumaili with an assault rifle on 5 March.

Officials said the gunman was seeking revenge after someone shot at his girlfriend's apartment.

Al-Jumaili was shot in a parking lot while taking photos of snow falling - the first snowfall he had ever seen.

Dallas Police Senior Corporal DeMarquis Black confirmed to the BBC that a hate crime had been ruled out, but that the investigation was ongoing.

The victim ran towards his apartment and collapsed in a breezeway after being struck. He died a day later at a local hospital.

The teenager and three others were looking for people who had shot at his girlfriend's apartment earlier in the night.

Police have charged the teenager with murder, and are investigating whether gang activity was involved.

CCTV footage from a neighbouring school was released days later and showed four people fleeing from the scene on foot. One person was brandishing a rifle.

Police credit a witness who provided them with Nealon's nickname for helping solve the crime.

"We don't believe that he knew Mr Al-Jumaili. We don't believe that he knew Mr Al-Jumaili's ethnicity," said Dallas Police Major Jeff Cotner told reporters at a news conference on Friday.

The shooting generated concerns in the Dallas Muslim community that Al-Jumaili might have been targeted.

His death comes after three Muslim students were killed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in February.

See take

See take that last line about the parking dispute in North Carolina, would the victims family care about the motivation ?

"Your son just got gunned down in a parking lot but it is good news, it wasn't because of his religion it was because of a dispute"

Granted, maybe law enforcement needs to put that together to gather intel  to see if there are patterns of racially motivated crimes occurring and possible see patterns to figure out if hate groups are operating. But the term still annoys me.

"Hate crime" is an Orwellian legal device that prioritizes thoughts above actions.   Murder is murder.   America is a fucked up nation.

There is a never-ending flow of bogus hate crimes perpetrated by losers who try and parlay their "victim status" in order to satisfy bizarre psycholgical needs, achieve matyr status for a cause, troll for funds, etc.  Even president Obama's good buddy ( and tax evader ) Rev. Al Sharpton got in on the fake hate crime bandwagon by using a young Tawana Brawley as a sympathy puppet. Remember that ?

Some people do their dead level best at trying to be a professional victim.

I remember the Tawana Brawley case all too well. Thought North Jersey and New York were going to go to shit over that one. Not to say we were in the best of shape to begin with Smiling

One day a judge with both

One day a judge with both brains and balls (though not necessarily male) will throw out a hate crime charge as unconstitutional. Left wing nuts everywhere will scream and cry and be ignored. Right wing nuts will have their first real legal victory in decades, and won't know how to handle it.

The world will be a slightly better place despite the seeming contradictions.
