So now we live in an age where assaulting reporters does not prevent you from getting elected.
Offline I am not even against the idea of forgiveness. But this is insane. You cant simply appologize in this context. This is not a bar fight between no names. This is a politician and still electing him the day after the assault sets a very dangerous tone.
So a Montana poltician gets angry at a reporter for doing his job, and slams him into the ground breaking his glasses. Next day, despite that, he wins the election. The GOP would be demanding a democrat step down if they had done that to say a Fox News reporter.
No sorry, if there is no political consiquence for doing such, long term this sends a bad message and errodes the concept of political civility.

Yes he apologized, but in this context that is not enough, if he really means it he should step down if he values the free press and the concept of peaceful transfer of power.

But the one thing you can not claim is it is all one sided. The assults by leftist/anarchists at Trump rallies and in Berkeley show who is not interested in civility anymore. The police were ordered by leftist politicians not to arrest law breakers. At least this guy was arrested and charged. So what do you expect? There is apparently no end game now except civil war.
