Warren Jeffs, president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was found guilty today of being an accomplice to rape.
Here's the story
From the article:

Good! I am glad! I think the Govt should crack down more on people like this
I'm glad too. Hope he goes for life and gets fucked up the ass.
One concern I had about his case was that they got him because the girl was 14. Had she been 15, he would have gotten away with this.

Of course he would have... *scratches head* That seems a little young as well...

The husband/cousin/rapist has now been charged with her rape. One wonders though if they some how find him innocent (doubtful but you never know with our justice system), would that somehow lead evidence to Jeffs for an appeal. Or does Jeffs verdict help the case against this guy?
Not sure as im not a lawyer, so maybe someone whos more familiar with this might chime in.

It is highly unlikely that one case would effect another. Appeals do not occur based on issues of fact. Issues of fact are solely for the trial court to determine. Appeals are based on errors of law. So, if an officer failed to read Miranda rights or if the court refused to allow him to defend himself, there would be a successful appeal.
The only way the rapist's case would effect the Jeffs decision is if some significant material evidence was brought forward that had been available to prosecutors before but was not shared with defense counsel. For instance, if the rapist could prove that the entire series of events was consentual AND the prosecution of the Jeffs case knew evidence existed of that kind. As you can see, that is highly unlikely. So, the rapist cannot help Jeffs.
Likewise, however, when the jury pool is voirdired at the beginning of the rapist trial, the defense will look for jurors who had no prior opinions or information about Jeffs. So, in theory, the Jeffs decision will not effect the rapist's trial as well.
