Martin Hedegger Was a Teen-aged Butt-Plug

Hello, all.

So, I'm thinking that next winter I might read Heidegger's "Being and Time". Given my interest in Zen (and Heidegger is somewhat known to pilfer Zen texts as I understand) is it worth tackling? How does it tie into his Nazi ties? Please let me know...

From what I've heard, his

From what I've heard, his philosophy was "go with the flow" and the Nazi's were the 'flow' of the time. Apparently he doesn't regret it either...

I meant he didn't regret it

I meant he didn't regret it even after the war and Nazi's were public enemy number 1.

To be fair, you can still be

To be fair, you can still be a  great Philosopher, while being a shitty human being.  Look at Frege.  Frege got Husserl banned from the library because he was Jewish.  Look at Hume.  Hume was a genius, and one of my Philosophical heros, but he was an anti-semite.  Take Aristotle, who advocated slavery.  St. Thomas, who advocated the killing of secularists.  Well, perhas St. Tom wasn't all that good of a philosopher.  Most of his stuff is just plain crap.

Given its importance, "Being

Given its importance, "Being and Time" should be read at some point, although Heidegger abandons at least a good portion of the project in his later thought.
As far as his relation to Nazism, it is a little more complicated than either simple rejection or acceptance.  You might want to check out "The Heidegger Controversy," edited by Richard Wolin.  It contains many of Heidegger's writings related to National Socialism and also some essays on the subject by other thinkers.
