New guy with a question

I was just wondering why theists are not allowed to post here. After all, it says "No taboo issue in here." At first I thought that you just didn't welcome opposing viewpoints, but then I noticed that you have two forums dedicated to "theist vs. atheist" debates, so clearly that's not it.

Also, is it that you don't allow theistic POSTS, or you don't allow anything from theists at all, even if it's not necessarily directly related to theism? And how do you know if the poster is a theist or not?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, I'm just trying to get the lay of the land. I tried to find a FAQ that might have answered this question but I couldn't. I apologize in advance if this subject has already been covered.

While I'm asking questions here, what is the difference between the "Kill 'em with Kindness" forum and the "theist vs. atheist" forum? Again, just trying to figure out how things work around here before I post anything.

Thank you for your help.

  I can't answer this

I can't answer this question very thoroughly since I've only been on the forum for about a week, but from what I understand about your first question (why can't theists post here), I think it's because the site founders want their to be an area where theists and atheists can debate, but they also want a place where atheists (the target audience of the site) can exchange ideas without having to contend with arguments. They can still argue atheistic affairs among themselves, and some of that certainly gets done, but having theists hanging around and harping on us would just keep us from getting that experience.

That's my understanding of the rule. The mods and veterans can give you a better run down.

A place common to all will be maintained by none. A religion common to all is perhaps not much different.

In the tradition of the Ancient Jews

We separate them from the population....we are fighting to free humanity from the mind disorder known as Theism. Like the bible says

"He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease,he is unclean. He shall live alone;his dwelling shall be outside the camp" Lev 13:46

So once they are cured they can feel free to post anything they like here. Of course I say this with totally sarcasm and I don't mean to piss you off or make you angry.(if you are a theist) My actions are in no way reflective of the rest of the people here...They are all really nice and willing to answer any questions you might have.

Yeah, this place is one safe haven where atheists can come and breathe freely without theist intervention. This forum keeps me sane....

In other words, we need a clean, uncontaminated environment in which to develop the vaccine for the theistic mind virus. Think biohazard security levels. Cool

Yes, it's a "safe haven"

Yes, it's a "safe haven" for me, too.  I don't post in the other forums, usually, because I don't feel like debating everywhere I go.  I debate elsewhere, and that's enough.  I wanted a secular forum at the mental health boards where I used to post, and they felt it was "unnecessary" for the community.  Try Googling for a freethought or atheist mental health board.  It's just not there.  People on the aforementioned board felt that all the other forums were secular, and couldn't understand my wanting support from a freethought point of view, and got upset that I asked who freethinkers were in the spirituality forum (I figured it was the closest-related to what I was asking).  One person told me I should go to a freethought forum to get support, but I need people who are freethinkers who understand what it's like to have these damned mental illnesses (which are really physical), and why do I have to go elsewhere, when they can have a spirituality forum?  They could find spiritual support elsewhere, but they were accommodated.

 Yeah, I'm still bitter.

Ahhhhh, all is revealed! My

Ahhhhh, all is revealed! My thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my question.

Also, could anyone tell me what is the difference between the "Kill 'em with Kindness" forum and the "theist vs. atheist" forum? While I gathered that one is supposed to be more moderated than the other, I really can't see much difference between the two. Any advice here is genuinely appreciated.

Regards,

SPS

Atheist vs. theist is a

Atheist vs. theist is a free for all.  Feel free to mock your opponent or blaspheme, etc.

In the Kill 'em with kindness you have to be respectful and not unduly offend your opponent.  For the faint of heart so to speak.

At least that's what I assume it to be.

Also, no cursing.

Here are the rules:

Ok... first... this forum is an atheist vs. theist forum, but a more gentle one. There are no set restrictions on debate at atheist vs. theist, this forum serves as an alternative for those wanting a safe haven from insults, profanities, and more that I will expand on. If you are a Christian, or religious, please consider telling your friends about this opportunity to debate and dialogue with atheists in a fair, peaceful, and civil manner.

Preliminary rules:

1. No ad hominem attacks. (subset: no insults- this includes calling people irrational :shockSmiling unless Ricky devises a good "calling a spade a spade rule."

2. No profanity

3. No preaching (you can use the bible to prove a biblical point, but you can't use the bible as evidence for God. Adam will revise/expand later, this was actually his rule)

4. Make every effort to be civil, polite, understanding, and caring for your fellow human.

Another use for this forum (as well as any other forum, you just have to ask) is to conduct one one debates/discussions. I will be having a one on one in this forum soon, all one on one debates should have a peanut gallery thread for comments, and all posts in the one on one thread not made by the listed participants will be moved to the peanut gallery thread.

Repercussions for breaking the rules, still unclear, but the jist is:
1. Post deletion immediately upon violation, no pm sent to user (figure it out)
2. 3 (?) strikes your out. A thread will be created for mods to list strikes, and date of restriction from forum. We'll keep track and after three strikes, you're posting privileges in this forum will be removed. You'll be given a year (?) before being allowed to post in this forum.

We won't be able to restrict you from posting in this forum (not good for us to use that function of the board), so if you violate your restriction several times (aside from having your posts deleted in this forum) you'll be removed from RRS message board entirely. All peanut gallery threads will be created in another forum of the site, so that the regular no holds barred rules can apply there.

Ok, that's a very prelimin starting list. RickyRoma is a genius when it comes to revising, and explaining lists like this, so go ahead Ricky, work in whatever you want. I suggest we dialogue about the rules in public, and then delete all posts except for the first one, where we will post the final list. Any board moderator or admin can comment in this thread, please everyone else, let us work the rules in public without interference. Non-board "employees" not allowed to post in this thread.

ON THAT NOTE... THIS FORUM IS OFFICIALLY OPEN, WORKING ON TENTATIVE RULES. WATCH YOUR WORDS!!

Just like theists can

Just like theists can differ in their exact perspectives, so too can atheists.  Therefore, it's interesting just to get different perspectives from a variety of atheists. I'm new to the forum and plan on starting up some new threads, so I would just like to say welcome.
