So I was passing by FAUX news this morning

I caught the tail end of a segment that was "Teen Gunmen: Self-Described Atheists". Now i didn't see the whole segment, but they have 3 people from Fox News and one Catholic priest. They said that someone who is losing faith in "god" needs special attention because those are warning signs. I wasn't surprised that Fox news didn't have any atheists to defend our point of view.

All the talk about

All the talk about so-called "warning signs" tends to piss me off.

The fact is that no one can predict who is going to fly off the deep end and open fire on a school cafeteria.  I had friends in high school who exhibited many of the warning signs that people cite nowadays.  Did it mean that they were about to snap?  Hell no, it just meant that they were typical pissed off, angst ridden teens.

Also, many of the warning signs are just lifestyle choices such as style of dress, preference in music, art and movies and religious afilliation.  I speak from experience that administrators won't use these "warning signs" to help students; they use them for profiling...to keep an eye on kids that they think might cause problems.

Luckily, my friends and I had teacher that understood where we were coming from and could effectively relate to us.  They had our respect because they treated us like human beings, not like kids who didn't know what "real problems" were.  That's the key to stopping teen shootings...just listen to to what they have to say.

The main thing that I was pissed about in high school was all the x-ians treating me like I had the damn plague or something...shit.

I can only see 1 thing that

I can only see 1 thing that might lead them to say it, other then maybe a post hoc fallacy. The tendency is that when one figures out that you have been lied to your entire life, this makes you a tad mad. So, depending on your reaction to this it may make you very angry, but i highly fucking doubt its angry enough, on its own , to trigger someone to go on a rampage of any sort. Note though that if it was santa and he just figured out santa doesn't exist the anger is there for that too.

Did they say that atheism

Did they say that atheism was a warning sign?

If they did, and you can verify it, the FFRF needs to know.  That's lawsuit territory, because atheism is statistically NOT a warning sign for rampage violence, and saying that it is might amount to hate speech, or something else we can actually make FAUX retract.

That's a very good point!  I'm sure I could piss off a lot of x-ians by saying that x-ianity is a warning sign for infanticide (the tenth plague, Abraham's test of faith, etc.)

My Junior and Senior years

My Junior and Senior years of High School, I exhibited the warning signs of suicide (according to my Catholic school) of course I was simply questioning and returned to my natural born atheism without even a sucidal attempt.

When the shooting was heard

When the shooting was heard ardent racist Gibson was ranting about how this Black shooter did his deeds because of the "hip-hop" culture.  As details emerged members of his staff informed him it was a white kid who listened to Marilyn Manson.

I'm sure the nutballs at the Fox Noise channel will rant on about Atheism and music, and probably throw in some video games.  The fact is the kid came from a dysfunctional home where he was abused and after a long history of acting act he finally vented his frustration with firearms.  Even if a Christian (although this guy was raised in a Christian home) did this I wouldn't blame it on his religion.

I take the television media with a grain of salt.  Michael Carneal, the altar boy, was said to be an Atheist.  Kip Kinkel was said to be the same although he went to church.  The Columbine shooters were said to worship Hitler despite one being a Jew.  The media claimed they killed a girl because she said 'yes' when asked if she was a Christian although the investigation revealed it was a completely different girl who was asked the question.

Fox isn't even a news channel, any more than the USSR's Pravda was a fair and balanced newspaper.

Hambi, I agree with you on 99% of issues. But I do not understand why this would be a lawsuit?

"atheism" is a warning sign" may be a stupid arogant demonizing statement, but is perfectly legal. Just as it is legal, and not slander or liable for us to say "Jesus is fiction" or "Religion is dangerous".

I would report this to FFRF too, but it is not slander or liable. It merely is bigoted and offensive and ignorant.

And please stop saying "hate speech" it makes me think of Doublespeak out of 1984.

They said when your teen starts to lose their faith and not believe in god, that's a warning sign that something is wrong and they need attention. I wish i knew if someone had recorded the segment. Its bound to show up on youtube sooner or later.

The program in particular is Fox and Friends. I believe the segment came on between 9 and 10 AM.

I tried following that link but it gave me an error about a "malformed video ID" or something.
