The bibles is not tolerant of evil

After posting loads of quotes which prove that god is intolerant: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=17091798008&topic=3659

I got the following replys (Please respond to each of them.)

wrote on Nov 17, 2007 at 7:19 PM.It saddens me that you do not see that God is not one-dimensional. God, being Omnipotent, is capable of ALL things, including wrath and destruction to those who sin against Him and defy Him. The excerpts that you chose were all from the Old Testament. This first half of the Bible is still very much connected with strict rules and regulations based on Jewish Law. Many of these rules are as much a cultural/ community issue of the time rather than God's will. And when it comes to God' actions, who are we to question the Almighty? I mean, are we really that full of ourselves to believe that we can completely understand and even so much as judge what He who is the Perfect Creator chooses to do? I respect your opinion, and I can see how if one were to only focus on certain sections of the Old Testament, you may miss the focus of Christianity: the spreading of God's message to the world that He so loved us that He sent His only son to die on the cross for our sins, so that our debts may be paid and that we may believe in Him, confess and rid ourselves of the sin so prevalent in the world, live fulfilling, truly satisfying lives through the workings of the Holy Spirit, bring glory to Him who made us, and oneday enjoy Eternal Life with our Heavenly Father, the King of Kings, in His Holy Kingdom. To those in search of the Truth, I suggest reading the Bible, focusing your efforts on the Gospels and the account of Jesus' teachings, miracles, and resurrection. Do not be afraid to place trust in the Word, for it was created under Divine instruction and supervision as a blueprint of God's message for us. As a closing remark, I would ask that those who are confused or doubtful to seek answers first in prayer, not from other people who may mislead or misguide, but from God Himself, who has every answer and who will not lead you astray. Remember this: God makes each and every person with a perfect plan to accomplish the amazing. He is closer to us than the air we breath, and He is always there to listen, guide, heal, and comfort. He wishes the closest relationship possible with us so that, in partnership, we may carry out His will and in turn be blessed with inexplicable joy. He does not expect perfection, He gifted his creation with free will so that we may choose and not be forced to obey and love Him. That being said, His desire is for us to remain close to Him through every moment in our lives, and to remain close to Him is to remain far from sin.

Wishing God's Blessings for all - Emma  replied to your post on Nov 17, 2007 at 9:31 PM.No the Bible is not tolerant. It would be wrong to tolerate evil (harm), so it condemns it and all who practice harmful action.
Do you think that you could ever have the wool pulled over your eyes...and if so, would you be brave enough to see the truth for what it truly was if it was presented to you? If so, I am willing to help you see the light...but let me assure you that it will be a very difficult pill to swallow.

Can I recommend a book?
Great themes of scriptures is a cheap and easy read but I think it gives a good argument towards moderatism over fundamentalism. The one I linked to gives a view of the old testament and how you ought to treat it.
Rather than treat it as literal absolutes as fundamentalism does, the author gives a more intelligent way to treat the scriptures of the old testament. One that most of us would be more willing to agree with than we'd expect.

"seek answers in prayer"?

"seek answers in prayer"?  Yeah, anything to stop thinking logically about religion.  I call self-deluded BS.  Those people don't want to be free.  They are too scared to even consider it.  Let them rot.

Quote: ALL things,

Quote:
ALL things, including wrath and destruction to those who sin against Him and defy Him.

Ok genious, here is the thing, you dont commit to consistancy when you use words.

"Capable of all things"

YOUR WORDS!

And guess what, Isiah 45:7 agrees with you. "I create good, I create evil, I the lord do all these things".

BUT what you miss is his attitude. It is selfish and self serving. "Unless you kiss my ass, I will do anything to you I wish."

So if you kill a rival in his name, that is ok. But if your only crime is chosing not to kiss his ass you get to go to an eternal barbaque.

Now your fallacy is when you hear criticism you equate it to hate. The incidious writing of the bible is that it threatens critical thought and since people fear harm it uses that threat of harm to those who appose the "authority".

However, what we see in reality is that growth in human history has never come from blind obidiance. It has come from shaking set norms and going outside ones comfort zone without fear.

According to that quote Thomas Jefferson should burn in hell for equating the birth and death of Jesus to Minervia being born out of the brain of Jupiter.

So when Hindu doesnt believe in Jesus they are defying God? So God has the right to release desease, natural disaster, crime and hostle warfare against non-Christians?

Dont fear, just replace "God" with "Yahwey" or "Allah" in that last paragraph and it would still be just as absurd to me as far as the logic is concerned in making the claim.

What are we? Are we plastic army men God places in his cosmic sandbox and burns with magnifying glass under the hot sun when he cant position us the way he wants?

Your character sounds like a petty inmature tyrant when someone suggests something differant. "Obey me or else"

Or else what? Am I a human, or a robot?

Mind you to all the theists reading this, this is not about one god but all current Abrahamic gods AS A CLAIM!

IF IF IF IF IF you claim X about Y diety, this is the problem I have with that claim.

I am not friends with people I cant question. So why would I want to follow any human, much less a deity, that is unapproachable and simply expects me to regurgitate their words without question?
