Definition Question

I've read the thing on the site that define's atheism and theism - if you aren't theist, you are an atheist.  But how would you define someone who is religious but at the same time an atheist?  That is to say, one who does not believe in a God, but still believes in something?(see Eastern religions)

I hope that when the world comes to an end I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.

I am surprised you haven't

I am surprised you haven't gotten more replies to this post. It is a very viable proposal.

"Think for yourself, question authority...throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrifying fact that we do not know who we are or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the religious, the political, the educational authorities, that have attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations... informing, forming in our minds, their view of reality...to think for yourself, you must question authority and learn how to put yourself into a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness...chaotic confused vulnerability, to inform yourself.. Think for yourself, question authority."

Timothy Leary

The above has nothing to do with your question, but I think that the unexplained has in its roots something explainable, I have had events in my life that I just can't explain, that I used to believe in a "higher power" but the more I investigate and think I come to realize that it is all just consequence. I have had dreams that to this day I cannot fathom, third-eye dreams, dreams that changed my life and dreams that I will never forget tho they were meaningless, I dreamed once that my grandfather was walking up the driveway with the mail and it was so disturbing that I jumped out of bed and looked out the window and there he was walking up the driveway with the mail in his hands.

BTW, who is that in your picture? Is that you? Don't think I am idiot, I am out of the realm as far as popular culture goes.

"Who, like some evil Atlas, turned the world upside down upon their shoulders, and made shams and delusions into absolute truths, and absolute truths into inviolate heresy?" Elliot Merrick, True North (this may be a misquote, but is close, I don't have th

Of course its not me silly - though there are some striking resemblences in our play.Wink It's Terrence William from the University of Louisville.

As to the my question, I was just wondering how you would define some who was atheistic and spiritual, since atheism is almost always associated with being non-religious.

Well, there are plenty of

Well, there are plenty of religions that are non-theist.  There's no "god" in Buddhism, for instance.  Technically speaking, you can believe in the supernatural without believing in a deity, so I would call non-theists who happen to be religious...um..  religious.

It's still silly, even if you don't believe in a deity.  The supernatural, no matter how you believe in it, is irrational.

Atheism isn't a lot like religion at all. Unless by "religion" you mean "not religion". --Ciarin

Xamination doesn't look too much like his avatar in my opinion.
