At Least Nobody Was Mean to Us
I was interested to see that front and center among the comments about the AAI gathering was this little tidbit:
"- No atheist had a single negative comment about RRS to any of our faces (17 of us)."
I mean, I could understand why that might be notable had you attended, say, the Southern Baptist Convention. But why was this an expectation going in to what should have been a gathering of fellow travellers? And "to any of our faces" seems to imply that you suspect that people aren't being open with you. Given that you showed up in such force, what's Sam Harris going to do? I mean, sure, he's a scrapper, but I don't think he could take more than five of you at once. Dawkins would be good for maybe four...he's faded a little, but he's still got a pretty impressive roundhouse kick for an academic.
On a note of appreciation, I wanted to thank you guys for giving me this month's Troll's Choice Award. It's an honor...I'm the very toast of Trollville.

I don't mean to speak for the RRS, but I took that to mean that none of the atheists at the convention had a problem with the RRS's methods, since they are sometimes told that their "in your face" tactics are a bit too much.
The line was not meant to suggest that any of the atheists at the convention might have a disagreement about the RRS's position on theism.
Other than that, what's the point of bringing this up?
Cheers.

I was just wondering if it was another manifestation of their crushing collective insecurity, which can often express itself in symptoms including uncontrollable anger, social paranoia, and adopting absurdly grandiose titles to inflate one's own tattered self image.
Psychonauts is, by the way, just about the most creative platformer I've ever played. Thanks for that avatar image...it brought back many fond memories of Lungfishopolis.
I really don't think they're very insecure about what they're doing. I have seen no indication that they are in any way insecure since my arrival here.
Uncontrollable anger? When? They can be assholes sometimes, but they do it only to people they deem worthy, and it is always a very controlled and purposeful event.
Social paranoia? How? When? They attend conventions, they have debated on national television. If they were socially paranoid, wouldn't that be a little terrifying?
Absurdly grandioise title? Maybe, but as Sapient has said before, it wasn't really his idea. He saw something similar on a T-shirt and thought it was a good name. While brainstorming variations, Brian37 (I think it was Brain) suggested the name.
Psychonauts kicks large portions of ass indeed. Lunfishopolis was a favorite of mine as well. Tim Schafer is one of the most hilarious people alive. At least I think so. Some people don't get the humor.

Dude, don't feed the trolls. Does it look like there's a potentially meaningful conversation here? He's just looking to provoke, seeing how much he can get away without before this post is moved or he's banned.
Good point. Well, the psychonauts talk looked promising, but that's completely off topic. So yeah, good point.
I can see how that might be the case. Consider it noted.
