PreacherWatch April 2008
Once a month I'm going to do a summary like this one:
Preacher Hunting and Other Adventures
I listened to Pastor Kenneth Copeland's podcast today and he had an apologist on his show for Kenneth Copeland's decision not to share his financial records with the senate. The apologist is a social scientist of some kind, he was called a presidential historian.
Pastor Creflo Dollar, who is famous for his relationship to Hip Hop supergiants at Bad Boy Records, insinuated in his last episode that one should still give to the church even when swimming in credit card debt. He did this by giving his own personal testimony of giving and heeding God' s call when he was in debt. This technique was also used in the film "Marjoe." Pastor Dollar also reminds us that "partial obedience, is still disobedience."
Pastor Bob Larson, is kicking the asses of Demons, and urging Christians to be weary of all the demons flying around and tormenting those who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb. Luckily he is here to teach us how to do spiritual warfare. Awesome! Its just like D&D but sanctioned by Jesus.
Pastor Jerry Savelle gave testimony of how the Lord gave him an airplane. The technique he recommends is to get a word from God, in your own internal dialogue with the Lord (talking to oneself) that He will give you a material blessing, you must act as though that blessing is going to happen.
Kenneth Hagin, the founder of the Word of Faith movement, or prosperity teaching is still being podcast. If one has any doubt that this lunacy has biblical justifications, I recommend this entertaining 15 minute a day podcast. It will make it very clear.
My personal favorite is Pastor John Hagee, and his church, The Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. I'm pretty sure I heard Matthew Hagee, his son. This church does all the same doctrinal craziness as the above charlatans, but they do it far more tactically. So what happened on the most recent episode, well Matthew Hagee dethroned all modern biology. Did he do this by attacking evolution, oh no, everyone already knows evolution is false. He did it by attacking the germ theory of disease, which states that most diseases are caused by microorganisms and viruses.
According to Pastor Matthew Hagee, it was the sin of Adam that caused disease, and causes it to this day. Whew! what a relief, I hope he puts his money where his mouth is and not only champions intelligent design, but shutting down the Center for Disease control, since all we have to do is claim our healing in faith and be washed in the blood of the lamb.
The blood of the lamb is awesome, there's plenty to go around, there is no obligation to buy, and you just pay as much as you feel like, but the above pastors will offer more than a few suggestions.
To tell the truth, I feel more for the people who eat this stuff up and send money, since this already demonstrates that they are the kind of people who actually want to do something, as opposed to the countless others who just watch it , read it, and
do nothing.
How many of us believe something but yet do nothing?
It is truly depressing at times.
I'm still getting off on all these sermons. Biologist E.O. Wilson once said on the Charlie Rose show that he watches televangelists like "Italians watch opera."
Well said, I think I can relate.
I think after my finals I'm going to show some of my pentecostal preaching skills on YouTube and the Mindcore podcast. But right now, even blogging this may be stupid.
I hope those of you who listen to the podcast can be a little more forgiving with the fact that I haven't posted yet this week. Especially since I'm planning on posting like 4 episodes by Sunday.
No one is listening right now, and it makes me sad.
Oh well.
There's my whining.
You know you haven't listened to the Rebecca Watson interview, or the David Harris interview. Many of you have, but most of you haven't. Don't cheat yourself, these episodes will make you wet if you are female and hard if you are male. Or not.
Alright, see everyone after the 1st. I have to study.
Your life is a love story!
