Acts of kindness: Week two
Every week I am going to share ideas and thoughts on a campaign to spread kindness. I do this as a validation that you don't have to believe in a god to be 'nice' and 'friendly' not to mention make a positive impact in peoples lives. Beyond sharing ideas, I will be following each weeks focus through journal entries and sharing a recap of my experience at the weeks end.
Here is the focus for the week of 5-19-2008:
Do a secret Act of service for someone.
This will be a secret only to the person I do service for so of course I will be able to report what I do and the outcome.
Until next week!

Very cool, wonderful you.
Very cool, wonderful you. Giggles and tickles on ya .... singing a love song ....
This particular act of
This particular act of kindness was hard to complete! Let me give some examples of a few roadblocks:
-My friend needed a babysitter, it would have been a great service for me to watch the kid, but it would have been no secret to her.
-A friend mentioned he needed to find someone to help him volunteer overnight at a shelter, well for me to help him, would have been no secret.
So I started thinking about acts of service that went anonymous, here are just a few:
-Gold coins found in Salvation army buckets
-Man hands out $100 dollar bills in tornado ravaged town
The difficulty I had was due to my understanding of the word "service". I was seeing service as a function, one with a more formal or utilitarian process. For some reason the "act of helpful activity" within the meaning of 'service' was totally lost in my attempt to complete this task.
Did I complete a secret act of service this past week? No.
Will I this week? Yes
Until next week!
