8:58 "No source other than the bible says that Jesus was a virgin"?!?!
Ok ok , BORN of a virign :0
BORN of a virign :0
The real question is, What was written during the life of jesus? nothing! do we have anything about the life of jesus that was written during his lifetime.. NO!
We don't have any source but the bible ( or mathew) that claims jesus born of a virign birth?
he was a virgin too right?

If the OT prophecies were fullfilled then why are there Jews?
This question can easily be turned around: If Christanity is so easily disproved, then why are there Christians?

I doubt we'll ever be able to say for sure, but to me it looks a heck of a lot like Christiantiy has been used since its inception as a way to control the masses. Even in 200 and 300 CE it integrated lore, celebrations and scripture from other religions and it's just kept on along those lines since then.
In fact, now that I think about it ... Christianity is Borg?

If christianty is so
If christianty is so "right" then why are there muslims?
Yes we can play that game all day :0
The question is more along the lines that the jews are waiting for their messiah, they are waiting for someone to fulfill prophecy. It hasn't happend.

Jews
If atheism is so undeniably logical then why are there Christians, Jews, and Muslims?
You're right, this game could go on for eternity (if you believe in eternity..haha..sorry bad joke).
Anyway, I wanted to point out that a lot of Jews are Christians, but you are right in saying that even more are not. I think that some Jews are ignorant of the fulfilled prophecies because they don't want to change, they want to keep their traditions.
Who was it that said the bible is the most read, but least examined book? I think that statement can also be applied to some Jews. Just like some Christians, Jews might pick and choose the parts of the bible that they want to believe.
True that, I don't think
True that, I don't think anybody has said Judaism is less of a target than Christianity. They are both still religions and it is religions we are against. It is more that our vocal efforts are concentrated on the more extreme religions that have the biggest detrimental affect on society and in this day and age those happen to be Christianity and Islam.
It is the extremists of any religion that are the most dangerous and therefore are the first targets.

Well, I am glad that you agree with my answer to g0at's question.
Why are you intollerant of religions? What is dangerous about what other people believe?
Well as a very quick
Well as a very quick summary, their forcing of beliefs on others, the detriment they're having on science and understanding of how things work, their pushing of ignorance (which is much the same as the last reason), their hypocricy in claiming to be morally right in all walks of life then doing immoral things and hiding behind the religion.
Religion in general is a detriment to our society and the advancement of it.

It is interesting that you say that Christians are forcing their beliefs on you...I think that they are forcing their beliefs on you only as much as you are forcing your beliefs on them.
I am sorry that the only Christians you have met have been hypocrits.
I would love some examples of how Christianity is detrimental to advancements in society.
A little side note: I enjoy talking to you, thanks for interesting discussion.

wow you did you homework
You impress me, because you know so much about the bible (more than most Christians). I am not a bible scholar, but I am pretty sure that most of those prophecies are refering to the second coming of Christ (no wonder they aren't fulfilled yet!)
Just out of curiosity I was wondering if you (g0at) have read the whole bible.
Sorry about the lack of
Sorry about the lack of response, must have missed the reply when searching for new threads to read.
I don't go doorknocking to try and convert, I don't push my beliefs on strangers. I only mention atheism and talk about it if others bring it up. I only respond. It has only been recently that I have felt the urge to up my efforts to be on similar levels to those who have in the past pushed their beliefs on me. I'm still a long way behind, I still haven't actually acted other than coming to sites like this for education.
Fortunately the society I myself live in is very accepting and the only hypocricy I personally have experienced has been to very minor degrees. I have seen more than enough examples of others either in the paper or on TV to much larger degrees, including the politicians of my country which pales in comparison to things done by the politicians in America.
Stem cell research. Creationism in schools. Wars started because "god came to me and told me" which is paraphrasing George Bush. The teaching of abstinence only in countries like Africa. Moving of paedophilic priests between parishes and paying hush money rather than having the priests dealt with properly. Treatment of fellow man especially homosexuals in some places. Those are just a few off the top of my head. Some of them I know can be considered controversial.
Ditto.

good to hear from you again
Your answer to the question "how is Christianity detrimental to society" is really interesting. A few of those things I don't really think of as detrmental to society (for example: i don't support stem cell research, i do support teaching creationism as well as evolution). It's interesting how differently two people can think.
I 100% agree with you when it comes to the treatment of fellow man. I have a heart for homosexuals, they get treated badly by a lot of people, especially Christians (dang it).
I didn't really follow you comment about teaching abstinence only in Africa. Could you fill me in, por favor?
To g0at:
I'm really not trying to sould sacrastic...sorry if it comes across that way. Lo siento.
There are many religious
There are many religious charities over there. Amongst the good work they're doing trying to help out these people, they're also evangelising and converting in great numbers. In these areas Aids is a major problem. The charaties are helping with medicine for diseases etc, but not helping aids at all. Instead of providing condoms and teaching safe sex (akin to providing medicine and teaching hygene), they're just promoting abstinence which isn't helping fix the problem in the slightest.

?
If people are abstinent...then they don't spread AIDS, right? Doesn't that help the problem, maybe in the slightest?
Maybe that's a little too simplistic. But I know of a few Christian groups that have gone to Africa specifically for the purpose of teaching sex education (they don't hand out condoms, but they do teach them about safe sex and encourage abstinence). Maybe these groups are in the minority...I don't really know enough on this topic.

Communism works, it's a fair system, right?
They're both good in theory, but fail miserably in practise which is why condoms and sex education are required.

Hey Claramarie, hope you read this
Christ second comming eh? Clara, Tell me when it was prophesized that the messiah WASN'T going to complete anything and he would come back to finish it all. Wouldn't that be a pretty important prophecy?
You see, christians have fabricated something and they have ingrained it into your head. This idea of a second comming was FABRICATED! So, if jesus were to come agin and complete only 1 more prophecy, would you say there would be a 3rd comming? NO! Then why say there is a second comming?
Clara, When I was growing up, I was forced to read the bible. If that answers your question. Not saying I remember it all, but yes I have.

looks like I struck a nerve, g0at
The OT prophets didn't know the difference between the birth of chirst and the 2nd coming; they thought that he was going to come only once. However, Jesus prohesied about himself in Matthew 24:30 ("At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory". And in Acts 1:11 there is another prophecy: "This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." Also, the book of Revalation is a vision that John has of the 2nd coming. Many things in Revalation are fulfillments of the OT prophecies.
So, do you think that I am delusional and brain washed? lol...I don't know how I feel about that
...

John having a "revalation" About what jesus is supposed to do later completes the prophecy?....

sorry I worded that badly...let me rephrase
John's revalation is considered to be another prophecy about the 2nd coming, not a fulfillment. However, if everything in the book of revelations really happens, then all the old testament prophecies would be fulfilled.
do you see how ridiculous
do you see how ridiculous this gets? THe messiah barely did ANYTHINg he was supposed to do. He doesn't even say he will come agin. So to cover the problems, we'll just prophesize that he will come agin.
makes no sense.

here are some prphecies that Jesus did fulfill
G0at, Jesus does say that he will come again. And there are so many prophecies fulfilled through Christ, let me just list a few: the year that he would be born, born to a virgin, born in Bethleham, his triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, his betrayal for 30 pieces of silver, the 30 pieces of silver were used to buy the potters field, false wittnesses would testify against him, he would be silent before his accusers, he would be hated by many, those that loved him would turn against him, he would be pierced in the hands and feet, none of his bones would be broken, his side would be pierced, although he was poor he was put into a rich tomb, he was resurrected 2 days after his death. All of these things were prophecied many years before they actually happened. I don't think that the prophecies about his death could be labeled as "self-fulfilling." Would you like any references? Would you like more prophecies?
First of all. PLEASE site
First of all. PLEASE site all of your claims. I am just going to have to outright disagree with you. List your sources in the OT where these prophecys are.
I already talked about the donkey and the Virgin one. But if you must...
see you are missing my point. When was it Prophesized that jesus would come agin?
Also, when did jesus complete these? And why wouldn't he do something truely miraculous that I could tell he did. not just come into town on donkeys ( unprovable stuff that doesn't matteR).
Listen, Crusifiction was a COMMON death penalty.
Example
Prophecy for a person who murders " You will be cuffed in metal and thrown in bars" .
So.. Giving a prophecy of someone who claims they are god , in a society where that is against the law, would be put to death. And crusifiction was the way.
that is a self fulfilling prophecy.

I think that as you study this more you will find this is a weak subject for christianity.
PLEASE actually READ the verses. Don't just search for prophecys fulfilled on google.

Sorry I am so late to relpy
Sorry I am so late to reply. I have been in the middle of finals, and I am about to go crazy with homework! I can't really fully reply right now; I just wanted you to know that I have been thinking a lot about what you wrote and I have a lot to say.
We are addressing a really broad topic that involves many different arguments, and I don't even know where to begin. I think it might be easier if i break it down a little and begin by addressing the original topic of your video: the virgin birth.
So don't worry I'll be back to reply later.
