Cults (aka Religion) Isle of Man
We’re lucky here, unlike you lot in the USA, in the Isle of Man religion is more of a pastime than a control base of fear. Us non-believers decide the important things. For example, in our schools we are taught evolution aged 13/14, the creation of stars and planets aged 14/15 and basic particle physics aged 15/16. All traces of religions influence are starting to be removed and hopefully in a few years we will laugh about god as we laugh about witches.
In the past few days, after watching a massive amount of YouTube content, I believe a major reason why people believe in god is because as a young child they are not taught the basic facts about how the universe functions. But not only that, it seems children are not taught to question or have logical thought or the need for knowledge. This leads to the following thought patterns.....
"I don't understand why I can move my muscles, therefore God does it."
Whereas here you are more likely to get...
"I don't understand why I can move my muscles, but I bet Wikipedia does."
I have now taken it upon myself to completely remove religion from my school. By this I mean remove its influence but I still believe all religion should be taught from an objective point of view in order to prepare people for the kind of shit they will be dealing with.
Here is my game plan. I will talk to the head teacher and say "I have been resisting for some time now but I feel that as I attend a school that believes in another god, I must wear full pirate uniform in accordance with my religion."

Well you are right. But,
Well you are right. But, when parents teach religion to kids, the kids are basically not allowed to ask any questions. And if they are, I imagine they are shunned by those they ask the questions. Some go on to question further because their curiosity and bravery is greater than others, others just meekly accept what they are told and soon it becomes brainwashed. What I've noticed is that all of the people at a young age who simply didn't accept "Just believe, don't question." go on to become Atheist's, because those are the ones who truly question religion and they are the ones who find logic. The ones who just accept what they are told, are more or less the ones that grow up to become indoctrined. Of course, I'm generalizing somewhat because obviously there are a lot of ex-christians and ex-faithful on here. But, I was just makin an observation. But you're right.

Absolutely. I'm chatting with someone who was homeschooled, and knew nothing about evolution and the big bang except for the lies his religious parents told him.
I'm in the UK, and even if someone is homeschooled, there are still checks made to make sure they're being taught the right things. In America, at least where this person is, there doesn't seem to be that at all.
Amen. (In an ironic way)
Amen. (In an ironic way) They need to exam their education in a big way.
I guess if people want or
I guess if people want or even need to believe in fairy stories and dress up in sinister costumes to add kudos and gravitas to their strange customs then so be it the problem with religion is that it is brought into schools by vicars priests and other such pontificating puppets, children are scared to question or disbelieve well i was with the threat of eternal suffering and burning if i didnt say thankyou god for everything...... so these cults have the next generation by the balls ....
if schools taught critical thinking instead of blind faith we would have problems with religion and of course it is a problem, sure on the surface their teachings of , what is it love , peace, prayer thanking god, harmless enough but noone can agree on what god wants so the whole thing ends up in conflict, its bullshit the sooner we get rid of religion out of all societies the better for everyone , and whats this god neading money ? cant he get a job like evryone else ?
