Self-Intro
Ah, hey, Fulltimedefendent here. Thought I'd get around to introducing myself. I signed up 5 months ago, but I was going through a lot of weird stuff, moving, etc... Finally having gotten a chance to check the place out I've decided I'm moving in (figuratively). This crowd's a lot less uptight than the richarddawkins.net forums, which is a relief.
Anyway, about me: I'm something of a political radical and an aspiring bio-anthropologist. My interests are primates, human paleontology and evolution, and Memetics. Great to have a place to go where I don't have to explain what memetics is.
I consider myself a "scientific" or "materialist" atheist. My only remaining political inclination: Militant Secularism and the defense of the American Intelligentsia from vehement anti-intellectualism. Occupation: student and culture-warrior.
Drop me a line!

Welcome to the forums!
Sweet! Are you interested in human evolution? Homo Erectus/Habilis/etc.?

Yes, and I'm not dogmatic enough that I think I know everything there is to know about ancient Homo. Much of their identity and their affinities with us is still open to debate. I'm pretty firmly on the strong Out of Africa side of that divide, though. And like I said, I'm also into Memetics, so that plays into it a lot.

Cool. I'm into Human evolution quite a bit. Interested layman and all that.
I've got a really nice replica of the broken hill skull and a 500,000-1.5 million yo bi-face handaxe made and used by Homo Erectus. I'm quite proud of it.
Be sure and check the evolution part of the forums. We talk about human evolution in there sometimes.

Your intellectual bents are very similar to mine. I like the Hawkeye avatar; I have a lot of respect for Alan Alda too. You should fit in quite well here. Welcome!
