There was a song "Dear God" (I don't believe in you) a long time ago... but I can't remember who it was by...
Zen-atheist wielding Occam's katana.

My favorite band : Nevermore
Anti-political/establishment/religion I just love the sound and the message. Here are the lyrics for one of my favorite songs "Born"
Religion changed the face of man, thou shalt not kill, we all are gone
The seed of ignorance is born thou shalt not think, thou shalt conform
The pigs order us to follow orders and obey
The flies drink the decaying nectar of their tortured effigy
Cling to wasted beliefs and visions and bathe in apathy again
No solution, the retribution of spiritual sickness begins
The legacy of suffering is through, the guilt we bear shall not tear us in two
Born we are the same, within the silence, indfference by thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known
If nothing in the world can change our children will inherit nothing
Born we are the same, within the silence, indfference by thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known
The pigs call for pure submission and fall into the fray
The lonely hunter beats his shallow drum, the soundtrack of world disarray
Cling to wasted beliefs and visions and bathe in apathy again
No solution, the retribution of spiritual sickness begins
Born we are the same, within the silence, indfference by thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known
If nothing in the world can change our children will inherit nothing

XTC. It's a great song. I really like the Sarah McLachlan version from the XTC tribute album. It's really quite good.
Me, I like anything by Bad Religion (obvious choice). I also like Caulfield's "Fragile," which is similar in tone to "Dear God," though not as angry -- it's almost wistful, like it'd be nice to believe in God, if only He was really there. Also, I like "Devil's Diary" from them, too. (" He's got his uptight white virginal followers / I've got these metal chicks dumber than rocks." )
"Yes, I seriously believe that consciousness is a product of a natural process. I find that the neuroscientists, psychologists, and philosophers who proceed from that premise are the ones who are actually making useful contributions to our understanding of the mind." - PZ Myers

I agree with IAGAY,Slayer is good for some anti-theist sentiment. Some might say it's more 'satanic' than atheist, but it's still good. Can't think of anything else at the moment..

Did I tell ya I love Jesus, but Jesus worshipers Suck ? Yes I did .... yeah it is a really very super complicated message (NOT) , so I will keep trying to explain ....
Till the day I die .... ((( Jesus best was an "atheist" philosophy, but turned into bad religion by the rulers ..... Buddha had the same basic rap but was more successful, and they didn't succeed in murdering him .... they both said the same basics truths, > "I am god as you (as everything is ) and fuck any other god crap" .... WE are the nitty gritty shit .... was their message !

Imagine - John Lennon
I've requested it be played at my funeral celebration.
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Oh so many good songs, some are atheistic, some are just good songs, So fucking what by Anti Nowhere League (later covered by Metallica), Irish drinking song by Dropkick Murphys (yeah they are a good old boston irish punk band that has catholic references due to life in boston), John Lennon of course that has been mentioned already, including his song God, Sly and the Family Stone for the song Life, Marylin Manson, my ex's favorite is Tori Amos, specifically the Little Earthquake album, The Cure, Psalms 69 by Ministry, Nine Inch Nails Heresy, Canada's own Rush with Freewill, ummmm Monty Python movies/cds etc etc etc, Metallica's the god that failed, Genesis Jesus knows me, Filter but I can't think of a song at this moment, Johnny Lydon aka Johnny Rotten another outspoke atheist I have his single cruel and in the linear notes from that single he wrote "where is god I see no evidence of god, god is probably barry manilow", Shirley Manson from Garbage another great atheist musician, Dave Matthew's what are you song, oh I can't forget Motorhead's Don't Need Religion, and Bjork......is that enough?
From Rush: Roll the Bones, the Big Wheel:
"I placed no trust in a faith that was ready-made
Take no chances on paradise delayed"
The proper bet to make for Pascal's wager.
Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen
I love John Lennon! And Monty Python is always great.

My band, The Exalted Piledriver, is working on a new song titled "God, You're Stupid." I guess calling something stupid would require a belief in its existence, but that's not the case here. Lyrics to follow, once they are finished. Here is our website:
http://www.sofa-q.com/
I also like this one from the awesome new R U S H album, "Snakes and Arrows",
Faithless:
I've got my own moral compass to steer by
A guiding star beats a spirit in the sky
And all the preaching voices -
Empty vessels of dreams so loud
As they move among the crowd
Fools and thieves are well disguised
In the temple and market place
Like a stone in the river
Against the floods of spring
I will quietly resist
Like the willows in the wind
Or the cliffs along the ocean
I will quietly resist
I don't have faith in faith
I don't believe in belief
You can call me faithless
I still cling to hope
And I believe in love
And that's faith enough for me
I've got my own spirit level for balance
To tell if my choice is leaning up or down
And all the shouting voices
Try to throw me off my course
Some by sermon, some by force
Fools and thieves are dangerous
In the temple and market place
Like a forest bows to winter
Beneath the deep white silence
I will quietly resist
Like a flower in the desert
That only blooms at night
I will quietly resist
God, you're stupid.
Ocean Breathes Salty by Modest Mouse
Your body may be gone, I'm gonna carry you in.
In my head, in my heart, in my soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both live again.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Don't think so.
Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.
The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I hope so.
Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.
Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
The more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind.
Well I don't mind. I don't mind. How the hell could I mind?
Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste the afterlife?
I wouldn't call the second one so much Atheist as Anti-Faith, anti Fate.
There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance
A planet of play things
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
'The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign...'
Blame is better to give than receive
[Chorus:]
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill
There are those who think
That they were dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them
They weren't born in Lotusland
All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate
[Chorus]
Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet
[Chorus]
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark"
by: Death Cab for Cutie (Seattle)
Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
'cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark
It was by the band XTC off their album "Skylarking"
It's not death metal but "Conversation with the devil" by Ray Wylie Hubbard is pretty damn funny.
Another Zappa favorite, "The Meek shall Inherit Nothing"
Some take the bible
For what it's worth
When it says that the meek
Shall inherit the Earth
Well, I heard that some sheik
Has bought New Jersey last week
'N you suckers ain't gettin' nothin'
Is Hare Rama really wrong
If you wander around
With a napkin on
With a bell on a stick
An' your hair is all gone...
(The geek shall inherit nothin')
You say yer life's a bum deal
'N yer up against the wall...
Well, people, you ain't even got no
Deal at all
'Cause what they do
In Washington
They just takes care
of NUMBER ONE
An' NUMBER ONE ain't YOU
You ain't even NUMBER TWO
Those Jesus Freaks
Well, they're friendly but
The shit they believe
Has got their minds all shut
An' they don't even care
When the church takes a cut
Ain't it bleak when you got so much nothin'
(So whaddya do)
Eat that pork
Eat that ham
Laugh till ya choke
On Billy Graham
Moses, Aaron 'n Abraham...
They're all a waste of time
'N it's yer ass that's on the line
(IT'S YER ASS THAT'S ON THE LINE)
Do what you wanna
Do what you will
Just don't mess up
Your neighbor's thrill
'N when you pay the bill
Kindly leave a little tip
And help the next poor sucker
On his one way trip. . .

From eons ago (circa 1975), a song from a Brit with close ties to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd...
The Spirit Lives
Where once were men are now but sheep
-a fiction and far cry
From planet earth's proud animal
-who would be you and I.
Alas, our forebears drank the cup of poisoned alibi
And made excuses far and wide,
and made God in the sky.
This boogaloo's now round the world
-bad trips for everyone.
No more the man of paradise
or the Celt of Albion.
They queue like burning moths to spread the all-time vicious lie.
You christians destroyed our tribe
-I'll fight you till I die.
And you can cut me down for what I said
But goodness lives where God is dead.
The history of religion is the history of the State
Incestuous exploiters of a catalogue of hate.
The man of peace was over-run by armies of the "Lord"
Who signed their names to any war
and sang to praise the sword.
The mission heads for outer space
the voices ring and swell
With aeons of self-righteousness
the senseless echoes knell
The words get much more meaningless
-even plainer to tell
That those who would pronounce this God
are those who make this hell.
And you can cut me down for what I said
But goodness lives where God is dead.
LOVE IS THE great triumph over christianity.
She made a fool of silly priests. She mocked authority.
She filled her bed with happiness. She gripped his loins for joy
And felt ecstatic agonies and screamed the sweetest cry.
Her children are the legacy of failure to be chained
An everasting mutiny of flowers where it rained.
They rise out of oppression
They speak with one accord.
The fountains breath- the spirit lives-
The future rests assured.
And to say that God is dead presupposes that
he was at some time alive.
Ooooo what a young fool I am.
Trust the evidence, Luke
"Fucking Hostile" by Pantera
...Come meet your maker, boy
Some things you can't enjoy
Because of heaven/hell
A fucking wives tale
They put it in your head
Then put you in your bed
Hes watching say your prayers
Cause God is everywhere
Now I'll play a man learning priesthood
Who's about to take the ultimate test in life
I'd question things because I am human
And call no one my father whos no closer that a stranger
I wont listen...
Check it out.

Black Sabbath Under The Sun Lyrics
Well, I don't want no Jesus freak to
Tell me what it's all about
No black magician telling me
To cut my soul out
Don't believe in violence
I don't even believe in me
I've opened the door
And my mind has been released
Well I don't want no preacher
Telling me about the god in the sky
No I don't want no one to tell me
Where I'm gonna go when I die
I want to live my life, I don't want
People telling me what to do
I just believe in myself
'cause no one else is true
Every day just comes and goes
Life is one big overdose
People try to ruin me
And I can't seem to eliminate them
People riding their real pace
Keep on running their rat race
The ante is risen once a week
In their world of make-believe
So believe what I tell you
It's the only way to fight in the end
Just believe what I tell you
You shouldn't have to pretend
So don't let those empty people
Try and interfere with your mind
Go and live your life
And leave them all behind

Even thou they are not explicitly atheist I like Rosenstolz. They not be very atheist in their lyrics but they are life-affirming and in some songs quite hedonist.
Those of you who understand German might like this song of them:

-----------------------------------------------------
Who asks me inappropiate questions also has to live with the answers I may give.
Alright, I just have to say... though I think it's important to derive your own meaning from songs you like, because that's half the point... a couple of the songs in this thread really have nothing to do with Atheism in my opinion.
Someone listed "Heaven's A Lie" by Lacuna Coil. In my opinion, this is a song about a relationship (love) with someone else, and when she says "Set me free, your heaven's a lie..." she doesn't mean literally heaven- she's speaking metaphorically about the promised nature of the relationship, and how it's not like it was supposed to be. Maybe I'm wrong. This one is disputable, BUT...
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark" by Death Cab For Cutie, I can pretty much guarantee you is not an Atheist song. This song makes me very teary-eyed, because it was mine and my boyfriend of about 4 year's song. In the song, there are references to the existance of heaven, hell, and "the blackest rooms." I'm not saying the song is even about religion, because it's not... or that it claims these things exist, it's just that it's indifferent to it, and save one line ("She told me 'son.' fear is the heart of love/so I never went back" ) it is merely used poetically. The song is, once again, about love. It's about how their love will surpass everything- whether they're together or not, whether they're millions of miles apart, even when they are dead. He's talking about going into the afterlife with this person. The line about the vacancy signs is just a clever and sweet line, saying that if there's no room left in heaven or hell, they'll just go walk... 'into that good night' as some say, or as he says, "the blackest of rooms." It's really not a very Atheist song AT ALL.
But aaaanyway. I love "Dear God." It's originally by XTC, but my favorite version is performed by Tricky.
I'm a big fan of XTC's work in general, so "Dear God" is a natural for me. Though it's certainly not intended as an atheist song, I also think Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)" should be mentioned. It's all there in the title.
"The whole conception of God is a conception derived from ancient Oriental despotisms. It is a conception quite unworthy of free men."
--Bertrand Russell
Marilyn Manson - Posthuman
"God is just a statistic."
"God is a number you cannot count."
Also, I Want To Disappear by Marilyn Manson (hey, the fucker is awesome).
Look at me now I've got no religion
Look at me now I'm so vacant
Look at me now I was a virgin
Look at me now grew up to be a whore
And I want it
I believe it
I'm a million different things
And not one you know
Hey and our mommies are lost now
Hey, daddy's someone else
Hey, we love the abuse
Because it makes us feel like we are needed now
But I know
I wanna disappear
I wanna die young and sell my soul
Use up all your drugs and make me come
Yesterday man, I was a nihilist and now today
I'm too fucking bored by the time I'm old enough
I won't know anything at all

...if this qualifies as an "atheist song," but it is a song I enjoy.
Robert Lamm, the founding keyboardist of the group Chicago, put out a solo album called "In My Head," (later expanded and re-released under the title "Too Many Voices," which included a song called "Sleeping In The Middle Of The Bed (Again)".
Here are the lyrics:
Caught in a love storm,
Howlin' like a newborn
Tryin' hard to stay warm--my cover-up is torn up and tattered
Addicted to apocalypse
Lookin' for the big hit,
Tendin' to take trips--the ship of love is beat up and battered
Time after time,
I blow me away
Sign on the street, now
"Brother, let me pray, now"
Winter's here, I believe it's here to stay
I read somewhere, that
Religion is for people
Who want to stay out of Hell
I was prayin' for a sign, or a vision, or a message--
'Till you've been there, you won't get well
I was sittin' in a room,
I'd never recognize it, with a picture before my eyes,
I've been Sleeping In The Middle Of The Bed, Again
I'm not sure this qualifies
Lost in a crosswalk
Battle only half-fought
Crawlin' 'cause I can't walk--childhood finally caught up with me
Flashin' like a neon
Noisy as an A-bomb
Lookin' to the beyond--starin' into the half-life of eternity
Time after time,
I blow me away
Sign on the street, now
"Brother, let me pray, now"
Winter's here, I believe it's here to stay
I read somewhere, that
Religion is for people
Who want to stay out of Hell
I was prayin' for a sign, or a vision, or a message--
'Till you've been there, you won't get well
I was sittin' in a room,
I'd never recognize it, with a picture before my eyes,
I've been Sleeping In The Middle Of The Bed, Again
I'm not sure this qualifies
I read somewhere, that
Religion is for people
Who swear they need to be saved
I've been Sleeping In The Middle Of The Bed, Again--
You can trust me,
I will be brave
Conor
If your sense of humor is as perverse as mine the finest atheist song ever is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." It epitomizes the antithesis of a religion within a religion.
Alan Sherman has a similar belief.

For humor's sake I will say a few songs which always make me laugh and are doggedly anti-religious:
1. 10 foot cock & a few hundred virgins
2. If you open your mind too much...
3. Storm
All of them are by Tim Minchin. You can find 'em on youtube.
