Favorite Atheist Songs?
I love "Only The Good Die Young" by Billy Joel , Godsmack's "Bad Religion" & Marilyn Manson's "The Fight Song"

It was XTC i think
Slayer is amazing! especially "Disciple"
Also Lamb of God and Kreator is really good....
I mentioned this before in another thread, but not sure if I posted the video. This song was written for a musical theatre song competition in 2008, and got to the final. It's meant to be a fairly straightforward depiction of someone's moment of discovering their atheism.
One song that sticks out to me is "Y" by The Berzerker. It's Death Metal, so it's not quite as easy on the ears as most music is.
Excellent, where can I get a copy?
I think I heard of Amanda Bloom here. Magdalene is a good one. Here's the video.
Most people are taken aback by "Imagine", but I think John Lennon's "God" is a far more shocking song.
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I'll say it again,
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I don't believe in magic,
I don't believe in I-ching,
I don't believe in bible,
I don't believe in tarot,
I don't believe in Hitler,
I don't believe in Jesus,
I don't believe in Kennedy,
I don't believe in Buddha,
I don't believe in mantra,
I don't believe in Gita,
I don't believe in yoga,
I don't believe in kings,
I don't believe in Elvis,
I don't believe in Zimmerman,
I don't believe in Beatles,
I just believe in me,
Yoko and me,
And that's reality.
The dream is over,
What can I say?
The dream is over,
Yesterday,
I was dreamweaver,
But now I'm reborn,
I was the walrus,
But now I'm John,
And so dear friends,
You just have to carry on,
The dream is over.
"Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night."

Although the meaning of this song is sorely misunderstood by many bible-beaters to be praising god for arriving just in time, and though the lyricist is *trying* still to maintain his faith (he said he needs the answer to the "Why did this happen if there's a god?" question , but of course, that answer doesn't exist), "You Found Me" by The Fray is a great I-used-to-believe-in-god-but-don't-any-longer song.
I found god
On the corner of First and Amistad
Where the west was all but won
All alone
Smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?"
He said, "Ask anything"
Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days
Were spent by the telephone
That never rang
And all I needed was a call
That never came
To the corner of First and Amistad
chorus:
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you hafta wait?
Where were you?, Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me
In the end
Everyone ends up alone
Losing her
The only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not, who I wanna be
No way to know
How long she will be next to me
(chorus)
Early morning
City breaks
I"ve been calling
For years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve
Taking all I want
(chorus)
Also I love a lot of the songs mentioned already and here are a few others "Only" by NIN, "Reflecting God" by Marilyn Manson, "Lubbock or Leave It" by the Dixie Chicks, "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas, "Aerials" by System of a Down, both versions of "Personal Jesus," there are several great songs on The Living Things album "Ahead of the Lions," "Get Up Stand Up" by Bob Marley.

One of my favorite albums (Good For Your Soul) from one of my favorite bands (Oingo Boingo) and it only just hit me how it fits on this list.

Not so much atheist themed..... but I heard this song in a ski edit and thought I might like to share it. It's an electronic song with the acapella of Biggie Smalls saying "FUCK IT.... I didn't want to go to heaven anyway...."

Welcome to the forums.
Everything makes more sense now that I've stopped believing.
"Dear God" was by XTC from the album "Skylarking". In my opinion, one of the best records ever. Incidently, Todd Rundgren produced it and the band hated it.

When I explored some non-mainstream chillout record labels I stumbled upon this little song...
Beings who deserve worship don't demand it. Beings who demand worship don't deserve it.
These aren't really atheist songs, but Satanic. I'm not a Satanist, but after a few years of debating Christians I get in the mood for Deicide.
Deicide - Trick or Betrayed
Deicide - Scars of the Crucifix
Deicide - Once Upon the Cross
Deicide - Fuck Your God
wow, resurrection of an oldie. i miss peppermint. she was so freakin' hot. what happened to all the pretty, intelligent girls here? this place has turned into a sausage fest, with most of the female voice lately being taken up by a frigid, bitter misanthrope who likes to pretend she's hot and can cow men into submission with her incredible looks (of which she refuses to show a shred of evidence), and an irritating middle-aged jewish woman who has an inflated ego (and probably isn't even a real woman).
sigh...peppermint, renee, jillswift, eloise, greek goddess...where have you all gone? (seriously, shoot me a url...)
"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."
--Hunter S. Thompson
Tool has a song called The Patient. It technically sounds like it's written from the perspective of a theist who can't/won't let go, but not in a flattering light, so I'll chalk it up with other atheist songs.
"A groan of tedium escapes me, startling the fearful. Is this a test? It has to be. Otherwise I can't go on
...
And I'm still right here, giving blood, keeping faith. And I'm still right here.
If there were no desire to heal, no loving embrace to see me through. This tedious path I've chosen here. I certainly would have walked away by now."
