Help!!

I got in a debate with someone and told him that more and more evidence for evolution comes out every day.  He asked me to produce said evidence, but I'm not really linked into any scientific journals and don't keep abreast of all news.  Could someone please provide me links to some more recent discoveries/reports/studies/stories?

Holy shit... it's not so

Holy shit... it's not so much where to look for evidence, but where in science you wouldn't see evidence!  Hell, a lot of modern pharmacology wouldn't work without principles from evolution.  Biology?  Completely dependent on it.

However, more to the point, here are some excellent resources discussing the current state of evolutionary biology:

30th Anniversary Edition--with a new Introduction by the Author

The Selfish Gene: 30th Anniversary Edition--with a new Introduction by the Author by Richard Dawkins

This is a must read, because it literally turned evolutionary science on its head.  Dawkins wasn't exactly the inventor of the idea of the selfish gene, but this is the first book that really united all the work that was being done.  In a nutshell, you can't understand modern evolutionary theory without understanding the concept of the selfish gene.

Why the Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design

The Blind Watchmaker: Why the Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design by Richard Dawkins

The Long Reach of the Gene (Popular Science)

The Extended Phenotype: The Long Reach of the Gene (Popular Science) by Richard Dawkins (Paperback - Aug 5, 1999)

Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature

The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature by Matt Ridley (Paperback - April 29, 2003)

 How Nature Turns on Nurture

The Agile Gene: How Nature Turns on Nurture by Matt Ridley (Paperback - Jul 6, 2004)

The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters (P.S.)

Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters (P.S.) by Matt Ridley (Paperback - May 30, 2006)

Here's a good one with some of the history of evolutionary theory:

Discoverer of the Genetic Code (Eminent Lives) (rough edge)

Francis Crick: Discoverer of the Genetic Code (Eminent Lives) (rough edge) by Matt Ridley (Hardcover - Jun 13, 2006)

I focused on Dawkins and Ridley because I believe them to be the most readable for a layman.  You can read the science journals if you want.  Just go to any local university library.  They will have most of the journals in archives.  If you have trouble with that, just make friends with someone in the biology department and ask them if you can use their online subscriptions to some of the journals to find interesting material.

Look-up the Evolution Made

Look-up the Evolution Made Easy vids on youtube. Scientific literature for layman simpletons like you & me.

Quote:
"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."
