Introduction
Hello
Just came in to check out this site. I'm atheist.
FYI: Xaphan was an angel who supposedly rebelled and tried to get other 'renagade' angels to burn heaven. Before they could succeed, they were 'cast into the abyss'...so the story goes. IMO, such a being would be a true hero and a martyr of the first order.
I'll be taking my time reading up on some toics. If I have anything to offer, I will contribute as I feel is appropriate.

Welcome to the hizzle fo shizzle!
Thank you for your greeting. An acquaintance of mine (christian upbringing like myself turned atheist) mentioned this site (as interesting). I thought I would see what she's talking about.
Hope you don't mind if i peruse the forum. If I have anything of interest to me worth contributing, I may indulge myself.

Welcome aboard, and don't worry about Mattshizzle, when he takes his meds he's almost harmless, almost.
Xaphan can be translated (morphemes Xa - ph - an) as defender - speak - crown, or the defender who speaks for the king.
"Very funny Scotty; now beam down our clothes."
VEGETARIAN: Ancient Hindu word for "lousy hunter"
If man was formed from dirt, why is there still dirt?

Thank you for your welcome and greetings to you.
In what languge is your translation? If I would be considered a 'defender' it would be for the separation of church and state.
Perhaps, when I've read more of the posts here, I'll point out a few questionable federal budget allocations (pork).

Thank you. That's pretty interesting. I appreciate your explanation.
Welcome!
Thank you and greetings. Not looking to get bit...yet.
i usually thank my friends even if their suggestions sometimes suck rocks. It's just the polite thing to do. Then later, maybe I tell them if their suggestion sucked, why. That way they don't feel offended (usually).
So far...so good. I'll keep exploring for the time being.
For some odd reason my signature isn't working. Obviously I did something 'wrong' and need to find out what. How embarrassing to be so inept.

Thank you also for your welcome and my greetings to you as well.
I hope I have the signature feature figured out. If not, oh well it could be worse.

That's good news (wipes brow and smiles). It's a relief to know I am not as 'challenged' as I initially believed. Thank you for the information.
So much to learn and read...so little time.

Welcome to the forums, Xaphan! If you have any questions don't hesitate to pm me or another mod.
I hope you like the place. I've found it rather unique. And the only atheist forum that I feel comfortable at.

Welcome aboard. Let me introduce myself, my name is ____ and I'm really a defendant, full time.
I hope you enjoy your experience here. I certainly have. Don't be shy. I NEVER have.
“It is true that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. It is equally true that in the land of the blind, the two-eyed man is an enemy of the state, the people, and domestic tranquility… and necessarily so. Someone has to rearrange the furniture.”
Welcome! I hope and believe you'll have a good stay.
I don't know Loc, you can be kind of scary!!
Please come in, pull up a chair, sit on the floor, admissions free, pay at the door. Where have I heard that one before? Can anyone tell me who first said that.
Xaphan - Welcome to the forums! Have fun, don't hold back

I have seen references to that poem in several "lost poetry" archives. From what I can see it has been around since the 40's with several versions and no know author...

You look too young (your pic?) to be a 'full time' defendant. Unless you are including some time spent at an academic pursuit I suspect.
Anyway, thank you for your welcome. I'll be 'in the stacks' here for a while.

Almost exactly what I do, after pouring myself a hot cup of coffee; getting my ashtray and cigarettes; and closing the door.
I don't know the quote you are referring to, however. Sorry. Possibly the lyrics to a 60's song?

Thank you for your welcome and warm greetings to you also. I'm quite the 'duck out of water'. I'll be reading. Perhaps posting something I find interesting.

From a poem titled Ladies and Jellyspoons or also Ladies and Gentlespoons. I don't believe it's known who first said it nor who authored it.
Oh, Hi new person.
