A little bit about me

I'm a Texan with a Roman Catholic background, an interest in the Unitarian Universalist movement and a realization that religion for the most part is a scam. I am not a theist, despite this. I'm a woman in a heterosexual long term relationship who is looking for an online community I can accept and who'll accept me for who I am and what I'm about without prejudice.

this is just a short on me, I usually end up saying more in posts I make, once I find out how the majority is in any given forum.

You are welcomed.  I guess there won't be any condemning.  Why stop with new words though?  What about old words with no basis in reality?  Like, god?  I do disagree with changing the meaning of words, this is how language evolves and it is constantly happening; an unavoidable, inextricable effect of language use.  You don't have to like it, but then I would highly recommend limiting your vocabulary to particles if you don't want to use words whose meanings have been changed recently, or at least to qualify practically every word you use.  I'm nitpicking, obviously, but you may appreciate where I'm coming from.  I do get the idea of what you mean; you have the same issues with poor language use that we all do.  It's important for understanding to be mutual and when people use a word in a way that we're unfamiliar with or perform a fallacy of language it complicates or inhibits understanding and that is a nuesance.  I think you'll have a great time here because many of us are very particular with our language use and go to great length to ensure that we are understood and that there is little to no confusion over the meaning of the words we use.

Hey, in their defense, there's some good beer in parts of Texas, courtesy of the Germans who moved out to the Texas plains in the 19th (I think) century.

Bock beers are made in the Texas Hill Country; i.e. the area around and south of Austin. the plains are buttwasher country.

I agree with you on the god issue, of course, but in regards to changing the meaning of words, it's not so much the natural progression of change I dislike as the active political bastardization of words a la George Orwell's 1984. Words evolve, meanings start to differ, that's okay by me. What isn't okay by me is when people intentionally change words to suit their agenda.

I miss my Colorado brewed New Belgium ales, almost as much as the microbrewed ales and biers available in New Mexico. I'll have to look for your suggestion.

The worst stuff about

The worst stuff about twisting meanings if words is used by the religious. Like when they claim they are persecuted when they are prevented from persecuting others. Or claiming that it's unfair that they aren't allowed to prevent gays from marrying.

yeah, I know and I agree. What really irritates me about that is they also try to change the history involved. Marriage is an example. It's always been a legal contract, no religion need apply, yet they try to subvert it to mean that it's a religious only thing instead of the contract it really is and always has been.

My bad; location screwup.  Texan geography is not my forte.  I'll rephrase:  "There were Germans; they moved to Texas.  Later, there was good beer made in the area in which the Germans relocated.  I like good beer."

That sums it up well.
