why did "god" give us 2 lives?

Our life here on earth, is real, its happening as you read this, now if "god" really wanted us to belive in him, and go to "heaven" (none of this stuff i really belive in) , why didnt he just automatically send us to "heaven" and have a life there.

IM PRETTY MUCH ASKING WHY DO WE supposably HAVE 2 LIVES? WHEN WE DIE IF HEAVEN IS REAL.

ITS ALL, the behavior of humans.

a deal

Call it a two for the price of one deal,  we hear at the " God of Abraham Inc." want your buisness (money) so we will give you not ONE but TWO lives and the second is guerunteed forever and ever.   But there is a catch, we get to run your short miserable life while it lasts, makeing  it even shorter and more miserable,  forget that "three score and ten" proviso, few true believers ever see age 70; They get to heven sooner isn't that marvy.

If you don't agree to the conditions of "god of Abraham inc." remember it doesn't matter to us good hearted religious believers;  we just send you to hell forever.   You can forget that freewill proviso because you don't get no choise, the CEO does.

Think of "god of Abraham Inc." as a high pressure used car dealership run by Al Capone.

"Very funny Scotty; now beam down our clothes."

Well, I've been told (by

Well, I've been told (by some reputable fundies) that the christian god just didn't make heaven quite big enough to hold us all so he's playin' this little game with us to weed out the sinners, send them to a different place where they can burn for all eternity.

Anyway, that's one answer....though there are prolly thousands of them that might fit your question.

BTW, you should've just stopped at..."I'm pretty."

According to some

According to some christians, this life is a test, so only good people enter heavenm, other people spectaculate that this is hell. But the actual answer is that the second life is there so that christians will be obedient and fearful.

According to the unthinking

According to the unthinking brainwashed believers of the supernatural this "meat" existence is a test.

People who think there is something they refer to as god don't ask enough questions.

Because that would make

Because that would make sense, and religon never makes sense. Why not let everyone in heaven and just kick anyone out who's an asshole?

I've always wondered that

I've always wondered that too. I mean supposedly there are millions of angels that were created without any want. They had the opportunity to just poof into existence into heaven whereas everybody else has to pass some sort of crappy test. If god is omni-scient then why not just bypass life here entirely as the whole test arguement falls apart if god is all-knowing.

Well, we all know how creating beings went for god when satan and his followers decided that heaven wasn't cut out for them. If the bible is true, which it isn't, I wonder how long it would be before a whole new generation of satan and his demons took hold. The thought of living forever in perfection sounds good on a topical sense, but at some point I think it would be a certainty. especially, if you are cooped up in heaven all day for billions of years without a chance to leave and explore the universe. I could handle the etrnity thing and all, but there are so many things I would love to see besides a bunch of willowy clouds.

Because he doesn't love us as much as cats, who get 9 lives.  Maybe we need to set up a lolhumans website?

I think the 9 lives thing

I think the 9 lives thing actually came from Islam - supposedly Mohammed was fond of cats and when he was dying his cat was the only one who stayed with him.

Guys? You're taking this shit seriously?

Is the name "Amoron" not  enough of a clue?  This is some kind of backwards ass trolling that I don't quite understand.  No need to play along here.

God works in mysterious ways, who are you to question God's will, do you claim to know the mind of God? OOPS I ACCIDENTALLY PRESSED CAPS LOCK phew, that's better.

I don't know about you all,

I don't know about you all, but if the Christian god existed, I would damn sure hate to live forever...

If, as the bibble says, Dog

If, as the bibble says, Dog made us in his image, then he's gotta be one fucked up dude.  If he's all powerful why did he make us the way he did. Also, I can't fathom (oh, right! I'm not supposed to, huh?) what kind of misanthropist who is all knowing could take an interest in our lives knowing what we are going to do next before we do it.  I'd be bored shitless with that kind of existence.  Just one of the many reasons I can't bring myself to believe in the mythology of xtianity. None of it makes any sense at all.  If Dog really wanted us to believe in him I don't understand why he doesn't do something every now and then that would show the world that he unquestionably exists.  If Dog ever existed I can only assume he died. Nietsche had it right.

It is a result of human evolution that these Dawkin's "moths" exist. If you haven't read the God Delusion, it is a wonderful example.

Our DNA has evolved to make as many attempts to "continue". "Heaven" is merely a gap argument, like a moth flying to the light bulb instead of using the natural moonlight. It is our wish for immortality which is an evolutionary side affect of not accepting our mortality.

Filling in the gaps is what the human brain does when answers are lacking. Deity claims are nothing but a false attempt for an explination.

It is merely an appeal to the emotions that "heaven" exists to the believer, because it frightens most that there is a finality.

The whole idea of life being a "test" is rediculous unless God isn't omniscient.

I know, but most believers never sit down and think about what they believe.

while still agreeing with

while still agreeing with what everyone else has said... i think a large component to the "2 lives" thing is conquering death... the idea that we will be around forever solidifies the concept of us being "better" amongst animals and everyone seems to enjoy the thought that their deceased loved ones are "in a better place" rather than being eaten by worms.

I guess it does seem to help console people after a death in the family that the dearly departed isn't getting munched on by fish bait.

Life Everlasting is a Sales Tool

Amoron. wrote:

From what I've read, particularly in "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War On America" by Chris Hedges, evangelical preachers use this imaginary heaven as a sales tool to offer potential converts something for nothing from life everlasting. The real cost is of course a convert's total submission to evangelical dogma.

Although I don't necessarily 'agree' with some of Chris Hedges viewpoints, [looks like one of Hitler's henchman in that photo;-] I do find his theist 'insight' into the radical Christian right of significant value.

More on the Christopher Hitchens vs. Chris Hedges in The "Is God...Great?" Debate

If there was a God, Man wouldn't have had to invent him [reversing Voltaire's famous quote].

If I remember correctly,

If I remember correctly, Satan wasn't happy with orders from Dog to kill some folks and that's why he got kicked out of cloud city.  So, who's more evil? Satan or Dog.  My vote goes to Dog.  Satan only killed six or so under orders from Dog while Dog has killed, directly or by proxy, billions over the millenia according to the bibble.

in the eternal life paradigm you never die so the word life is meaningless and to even state that this life a prelude into the next is wrong because the definition of eternal is having no begining nor an ending.  If you don't have a begining or an end the ending of the first life fading into the next doesn't quite make sense. Plus the whole idea it's self kind of scares me a little an infinate amount time can pass in heaven and you have another infinate amount to go.
