Hi Everybody!
Hello. My name is Connor and I am an American Athiest.
I am only 15 and live in a family that is hardcore West Virginia Methodist on one side, and strong Catholic on the other. I love my parents, but can't bring myself to tell them. It is partly out of fear, but mostly because I think they would feel like they are failures. I was myself a strong Christian until earlier this summer. I remembered debating the existence of ghosts and the supernatural with a friend, and thinking "I don't believe in anything created by man." After A while, I realized that all gods fell into this category as well. The first time I seriously said to myself "there is no god," I felt like I was admitting something to myself rather than blindly accepting and trying to rationalize someone else's bullshit. Long story short, I did a little research and found, and pretty much fell in love with, the RRS. Because many of my friends are friends because I only see them in church and I live in a deeply religious family, I don't know whether or not to "come out of the closet" yet. But it's great to know that I am not alone, and look forward to being active on this site. So, nice to meet you all! (:

hey Connor!
Hello. Good luck making the right decision as to whether to come out of the closet or not. Maybe you could wait a few years until you're independent from your folks, and maybe made some friends who share your skeptical outlook, before taking the step. Or maybe not. I dunno.
Wish in one hand, shit in the other, see which one fills up first.
Thanks. I'm trying to keep it between me, some trustworthy friends, and the entire internet .
But i completely forgot to mention earlier, my interests include drawing, music (mostly classic rock, but I'll give anything a chance), movies (The Dark Knight pwnd), reading anything interesting I can find, and gaming (right now, D&D, Team Fortress 2, and Assassins' Creed).
Hi young fella Lefty13. I now pronounce you christ. Be careful, don't get crucified. I feel for ya, me god, just as you.
Atheism Books.
Lefty13 welcome on board and as for comeing out of the closet on atheisim. You might consider makeing your skeptical beliefs known to all and sundry on non-religious issues first. You don't believe in ghosts, Santa Claus, easter bunnies, UFO's etc.... avoid talking religion as much as possible, don't debate it just avoid it. Your friends and family will get use to the idea your not religious before you actualy come out of the closet. It cuts down on any shock effect later.
"Very funny Scotty; now beam down our clothes."
VEGETARIAN: Ancient Hindu word for "lousy hunter"
If man was formed from dirt, why is there still dirt?
From what I have seen, atheist (Pen and paper) D&D'ers seem to love to play scripture-thumping clerics and paladins. I know that I do, anyway: proselyzing until other characters want to scream at you is fun fun fun
But then, I have it easy- where I live atheism hardly shocks anybody, so take Jeffrick's explicit advice over my implicit one, heheh.
Anyway, forasmuch it is not silly for a 30-post wonder like me to welcome anyone: welcome!
Welcome to the hizzle!
Lefty13 - I just love the carefully crafted irony of your forum name =^_^=
Thanks for all the support guys.
BTW about my name, I just thought of it when I was 13 because I'm left handed. I see what you mean, though
Welcome aboard!
Well havent played D&D for a while, but was a big fan also done a lot of live roleplaying and strangely enough my favourite class was always the priest.
They generally have so much roleplay potential also in these sorts of games the existance of gods is a fact which is fun to go around using their powers etc
Welcome !
I often wonder what a parent thinks when a 15, 16, 17 year old tells them they no longer believe in god. I could guess that they may think :
--The devil got my baby (more church! more church!)
--They are just acting out (more church! more church!)
--We must have done something wrong (more church! more church!)
I didn't grow up in an overly religious family so I don't know what you are going through. All I can offer is: continue to be true to your own thoughts and understanding of the world and don't get too caught up in what you don't believe.

So do I, but I'm too afraid it will be one of the things you suggested to actually try it.
