I don't trust this one bit: everything costs money, and by subscribing (and, naturally, paying 15 bucks) you get a title and the right to perform marriages...? What crazy, screwed-up nonsense is that?

I even doubt that the founders of the site truly grasp what atheism does and does not entail: "The First Church of Atheism is formed around the belief that science and reason dictate all natural life"... what? Puzzled

I had always thought that science tried to discover and describe natural life,, using reason and the scientific method... but what in the world does does it have to DICTATE about it?

Maybe..

Maybe there is a need for such a thing in the US.  It is useful to have non-religious officiants available who are recognized by the Govt.  In Australia we have Govt licensed Celebrants and they are officially recognized and able to perform weddings, funerals and the such.  But, I think it is a pity to contaminate such a useful function with the trappings of religion.   It is demeaning for atheism to appear as 'pale copies' of religion.

yeah, but we already had

yeah, but we already had secular celebrants.

sorry the two founders had such a jacked up wedding but on the three minute glance i took at the page, this seems more about generating income.  and yeah, all that 'i believe' shit disturbed me too.  This really took the cake though.  (emphasis added.)  wtf?

Doesn't the ULC already fill

Doesn't the ULC already fill the role of "buy-a-cert" for religious credentials?

Beware internet ads asking

Beware internet ads asking you to pay to invent something that already exists.  Justices of the Peace are secular wedding officiants, and there's one in every city that has a courthouse.
