Is religion partly to blame for the credit crisis?

I stumbled across an interesting article and I thought some of you might be interested.

The article isn't especially detailed, but it raises several excellent points, connecting the current credit crisis with "Prosperity Gospel".

So what do you think?  When the numbers start rolling in, do you think a legitimate correlation will be found?

I think that they will have

I think that they will have a higher number of foreclosures but I don't think that it was due to the prosperity gospels per se, it was the banks that approved the mortgages, however who will they blame when they lose their houses? I mean it was god that gave them their houses, was it god that took it away? Now however we see why those people got the mortgages, not because of some silly god, but because the banks decided to make money off of some really really stupid concepts....i mean come on seriously NO ONE in the banking industry thought that sub-prime mortgages were not going to fail??

Now people, the people with crap credit ratings buying houses out of their normal price range because they got a "good" sub-prime deal, lets admit the truth here, if you buy a house that you normally cannot afford, well it's your fault when the percentages goes up, as well as the price of the house goes up and you have to pay more land taxes. Did no one actually think this through? Or was it the old lets just follow the american dream of big house big car big everything? Whatever happened to living within your means?

I don't think it was myopathy on the part of the people in the system. The problem was that nobody had an incentive to stop. The root of the problem is two-fold. The saving rate in the US is 0%. This is astounding. This combined with the high consumption rate made it inevitable that the US had accumulated debt so spectacular that people will now have no choice but to start saving and to stop consuming at such a high rate. From my position right in the middle of the largest and most important city in the Asian financial market, it appears to me that eventually, we shall end up owning most of the US, as they have borrowed money from us for so long. This is not so good for you guys. It's great for me, however.

"Physical reality” isn’t some arbitrary demarcation. It is defined in terms of what we can systematically investigate, directly or not, by means of our senses. It is preposterous to assert that the process of systematic scientific reasoning arbitrarily excludes “non-physical explanations” because the very notion of “non-physical explanation” is contradictory.

There are a few of us who are trying to figure out how to leave soon.  I hope I make it out in time.

Ha ha.  I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard a liberal say this.  Every four years, like clockwork

Well, technically, I don't think I'm a liberal.  My economic position is squarely in the middle.  However, you'll notice that the number of people saying they're leaving never seems to grow.  That's because a lot of people do leave the country every four years, like clockwork.  It takes another four years for the younger generation to realize that they need to leave.

Oh, I know some people leave, but from my experience (which is of course limited), most people just like to talk.

I've always liked living in the States, though.  I mean, I'm not patriotic or anything, but it's a pretty cool place.  I've lived here my whole life (almost 29 years), and I've never been so fed up that I wanted to leave.  Not even close.

Who knows, though.  It seems like times are only getting harder.

My Jesus...well, let's see.

He's quite possibly a myth, but I'm fine with that.  I think that myth has gotten a bad rap in modern times anyway.

Is he an idol?  Sort of.  It's impossible to know him, so I have to think an image of him in my head or paint a picture of him in order to even speculate as to what he looks like.  And it's subsequently easy to be draw to the image in my head rather than who he is (or possibly could be), so yes, I am an idolator of sorts.

What do I do uniquely as a Christian?  Probably nothing.  I'm not a very good one.

Depends who you're talking about. Quite a few of us literally can't save. Unless we'd be willing to live the life of an ascetic monk we make less than we can live on. I literally have no income starting next week and have less than $100 in savings. If it wasn't for me living with my parents I'd basically have no choice then but to get a gun and take shit from some motherfuckers.

I like you jmm. Are you good

I like you jmm. Are you good with pantheism, with your jesus ? Oh, and that buddha! Me god likes  .... but fuck separatism, as all is ONE. Know what I mean ??? As I AM what I AM , g awe d

I think paul and his messed up Xainity. Labels are really not the best, , and so I just say I am god, as all is one, and so no dogma worship, as I god needs no saving, as I AM eternal ..... and I had no choice in this, as I was so condemned to be what I am .... Dig, as all is one , no separation ? ONE .... eternal.  ???
