It hurts! It Hurts!

The ignorance of people! Holy shit! (pun intended). I’m in an argument and reasoning class, and we have to give speeches on controversial topics. (I’m doing mine on how fundies are the greatest threat to the world today) This kid got up to give a speech on how evolution should not be taught in school. I shit you not, these were his reasons
A) Most Americans believe in god – evolution is insulting to god, and therefore shouldn’t be taught
B) The idea that we came from monkeys is insulting and will harm children
C) Evolution doesn’t explain how life began, and therefore is bogus
D) Fossil records prove evolution is false
E) It’s only a theory
F) It contradicts religion and therefore shouldn’t be taught
G) Only what the majority of people believe and accept should be taught in schools
I wanted to fucking explode. I gave him almost all zeros on the peer evalutation, and made a comment to read a science book. I then found out his campus box number and put a note card in it with the url to “The origin of life made easy” video on youtube….holy fucking christ…..

Lol, it feels good to vent. I hope he wasn't a science major. Science majors that deny evolution are scary.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare
What a fucking idiot! If he doesn't fail there's something wrong with the teacher.
Damn, butterbattle. You get an A+ from me. I don't give those out too often, either. Ask anybody.
Atheism isn't a lot like religion at all. Unless by "religion" you mean "not religion". --Ciarin

Books about atheism
Sadly, one doesn't necessarily always receive marks on accuracy. Formal debates are keyed more to oratory skills than actual facts. The nutter may have gotten an A.

ah, times like this make one long for the old days, when universities were dangerous places full of drunken students in the classroom as well as out of it, who would beat a man's brains out for showing himself an idiot.
seriously, read up on the history of oxford or cambridge sometime. universities during the renaissance were crazy places. no "sensitivity" or "political correctness" there. if this guy really made such an ass of himself logically, he would have gotten his comeuppance...at the end of a club.
"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."
