New Simpsons episode warns about the possibility of irregularities with voting machines... Funny! Or sad? Smiling

That was great. A bit

That was great. A bit worrying though. I'm dubious about computer programs being used in elections anyway. The interface of the machines could belie the actual software, or without proper protection they could be easily rigged by some nerdy Republican. I'd rather settle democracy with paper votes, inserted into secure ballot boxes.

I would prefer that  you

I would prefer that  you can vote electroticly with a little paper printout that gets put into a box and then the paper and the electronic get tallied up to make sure that there was no rigging... But i still feel a paper trail is best!

This actually gives me an opening to something I've been pondering recently.  It almost seems (and I am well aware I may well have just been counting the positives and ignoring the negatives here) that EVERY time there's a screw-up in the trials for the electronic voting systems, it's in the republican's favour.  I can't for the life of me think of a time I've read stories about systems screwing up in both directions equally, or people trying to vote republican and getting it recorded as democrat.  Have I just been doing what I put in brackets above?

Neither of that. It's true, in the sense that this "method" was what reputedly won Bush one of his elections. It was the Bush vs. Kerry elections I think, and the company which supplied the voting machines was allegedly owned by Jeb Bush. This piece of The Simpsons probably reflects this message, regardless if it's a hoax or not.

Anyway, every one of you, there should be a number of your vote. Write down that number, and review it. If it won't be for Obama, but for McCain, make sure this will get to all media in the world. In the previous faked electronic elections, it's said it was like every fifth vote for Kerry was changed to Bush.

I had once read an opinion on Republicans... Dunno if it's true, but might be. It's like they believe, that they have a right to rule given by God, and so they're allowed to use any method to fulfil the God's will. I can't imagine that very well, like one political party, in one country, on a tiny pale blue dot in the middle of nowhere is chosen by God? What are they, some neo-Israelites, or something? Well, they certainly behave like that, including a commiting a massacres in the same areas of Middle East. What was that ambush of Syrian village last week, you bastards?!
Here's already a part of public opinion, considering Americans to be like Nazi army, conquering a lebensraum. Those, or an invading forces of Soviet Union were most hated symbol of terror, but for the young generation, the American army is something between Gestapo and an swarm of oil-eating locusts. If there is any way how America can change, it should be really, really soon.

I've certainly heard that

I've certainly heard that one company supplying the voting machines is also on the Republican Party's donation register. I don't know how true these allegations are, but what is worrying is how easy it would be for such a company to rig the machines and get away with it. Is there any kind of national watchdog overseeing the production and distribution of the machines?
