cosmos for rednecks

i don't know how many of you are avid family guy viewers like me, but even if you aren't, you'll appreciate this.  only seth macfarlane can go from biting satire to gratuitous gross-out without missing a beat.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

I'm not. Nope. I will never admit to watching Family Guy, nor will I admit to missing it when it's not on, nor admit to laughing even at the gratuitously disgusting sophomoric humor.

But you must feel you've got scripture on your side to come up with the tedious 'Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve' style arguments instead of just recognising that some people are different." - Douglas Murray

I love Family Guy. It's probably the funniest bit of American TV around these days. Having said that I usually prefer British Comedy.

Just a nice little reminder

Just a nice little reminder of why I moved far far far away from Texas as soon as I turned 18.  I lost my accent and gained an IQ.

To go beyond your limits you must first find them.

Some British comedy I think

Some British comedy I think is stupid (ie Absolutely Fabulous)

But love Monty Python, Benny Hill, and the Young Ones.

There's always American

There's always American sitcoms on TV. And they're so formulaic (with the exception of Scrubs and My Name Is Earl), you see one and you've seen them all. Here we have/have had sitcoms like Peep Show, The Mighty Boosh, Spaced, Extras, Coupling, League of Gentlemen - sketch shows like Bremner, Bird and Fortune, Alistair McGowan's Big Impression, That Mitchell and Webb Look, The Fast Show, Goodness Gracious Me - panel shows like Have I Got News For You, QI, Mock The Week - comedians like Ricky Gervais, Russel Brand, Jo Brand, Ed Byrne, Peter Kay. There's something about the British sense of humour, it's odd, a bit quirky, slightly self-mocking, sarcastic, and often plays on making you as uncomfortable as possible. The reason Peep Show is so funny for example is not because of the jokes but because you literally experience the inside of their heads, every litttle thought process, and even though the two principle characters are total weirdos, the most uncomfortable thing is the similarity of Peep Show to our own lives. That kind of discomfort is what makes us laugh, because it is the only reaction to such crippling honesty.

I will admit to watching it and enjoying it whole hartedly.

I can't figure out how to embed this video.  It doesn't have the handy embed code with it, and I am incapable of writing one.  Anyone more computer savvy than me that can do it?
