The money religion. It's not officially recognized, but it bears all characteristics of a cult, it's global, and it kills tenths of millions of people per year. One of the links in my signature should speak about the god of economic growth, or perhaps a devil.

But if you want a classical religion, then probably the Roman Catholic, in times of Holy Inquisition and burning of witches and pretty much everyone around who had a bad luck. Add to it a papal wars and crusades, and it should be quite a high number.

Anyway, religion is not the worst enemy of humanity, it's the most numerous and loud. It's a big threat, but not in let's say first 5 global threats.

Beings who deserve worship don't demand it. Beings who demand worship don't deserve it.

Though it is always tempting to say Christianity citing all the wars from Constantine to the invasion of the New World it's actually Islam. Islam was spread by the sword from its inception and probably just the wars in India to spread Islam killed more than all Christian wars and murder combined.

See list of Islamic Wars.  Persecution of Hindus.

I'd say humans are the worst

I'd say humans are the worst enemy of humanity. You know when bombs go off they not only destroy things around them but also destroy themselves. Once the bomb is done destroying, there's no more bomb. Humanity is like a bomb, it will reak havoc on the world and in doing so destroy itself. Even when it's trying to help itself, whether it be producing electricity or making some nice kitchen units, it is systematically ruining the world it has to live in.

I don't think there is an inevitability that humanity will destroy itself, but if we carry on going along this trajectory then there's a possibility we might not last out the century.
