I bet these are the first

I bet these are the first folks who get upset at every "slight" against Christianity, too. "Oh, us poor Christians are picked on all the time! But don't include atheists in the good ol' US of A. Oh, and we're right, and you're wrong."

"Yes, I seriously believe that consciousness is a product of a natural process. I find that the neuroscientists, psychologists, and philosophers who proceed from that premise are the ones who are actually making useful contributions to our understanding of the mind." - PZ Myers

That article was hilarious.

That article was hilarious. Some people need to settle down and not look for imaginary attacks on them.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."
British General Charles Napier while in India

They need to realize there

They need to realize they're not the only people in the country. They may be in the majority now but their hold is slipping.

After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.

The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

What scares them shouldnt.

What scares them shouldnt. If every citizen views the Constitution, not as an intitlement for government to favor them over all others, but if they would view it the way the founders intended, as a template, it wont matter who the majority is, now, or in the future.

The founders never intended for Christians only to serve in government. "No religious test" was put there diliberately so that there would be no monopoly of religious power on government.

The only thing any theist, of any label should fear, is not the loss of their rights, because every citizen should uphold Constitutional rights, the only thing that theists should fear is their own lack of evidence when they are debating the existance of their claimed being, but that is not a matter of rights, but being able to demonstrate a claim one makes ON ANY ISSUE.

The polls are very encouraging, even in that most who do believe are not bothered by the Obama quote and that only a small minority, which is probibly shrinking, is bothered by it.

I think all Citizens are on their way to living up to the words of the Constitution in allowing all qualified citizens to politically compete to our highest offices.

That is what makes people want to come and live in this country, not some gang mentality where all others sit at the back of the bus. This is OUR country, and it doesnt belong to atheists, or Christians or Muslims, but all Citizens no matter their label, and if you call someone a citizen and you say they have the same rights as you, then they too can compete for our highest offices.

Bingo.

Let's review...

Total number of points in the Constitution in favor of Christianity or any other religion in any official capacity: 0

Total number of points in the Constitution against religion in any sort of official capacity: 2 (Article 6 & Amendment I)

That score ain't changed since 1791. The term "Christian Nation" in reference to the United States makes no sense.

Nobody I know was brainwashed into being an atheist.

Why Believe?

I see your point but I don't think it's realistic. The fundies will never see it as it's written.

I am not delusional. I don't expect that. But if you look at the poll in changing attitude twards atheist and minorities in general, things are getting better.

Fundies might have been able to build upon their tactic of missinformation if they hadn't marketed Bush as their savior to reinstate Jesusland.

They have a pesky problem in free speech though. IT IS UP TO US to win this propaganda war by constantly reminding more and more people about words in the oath of office and "no religious test".

If you think short term, you will lose. Fundies have been marking their missinformation for quite a while long before "God" was added to the pledge or put on all curancy.

But I do know this. I know where the atheist voice was in 01, and where it is now and it is night and day by comparisson. The battle will not be won overnight, but as long as we raise our voices, the fundie tactic will fall to concepts of compassion and empathy.

I mark on my money, "No Religious Test, U.S. Constitution". I also where ever I can quote Thomas Jefferson and the Treaty of Tripoly, for example. And I am keeping the Obama quote in my sig as long as he is President.

The weapons are there and are in the same words that the founders used. Fundies prey upon the fact that most people have the attention span of  a flea.

But most secular believers and non-believers see through this tactic and the numbers are growing. They cant win through propaganda window decorations as long as WE raise our voices.

Smoke and mirrors always lose to the light of truth.

Personally, I am damn

Personally, I am damn glad that he got called on this. The fact is that this opens up the national conversation about who is a good American. I for one, am sick and tired of hearing polls that say that the majority of Americans feel that atheists cannot be good citizens. Hell's Bells but there are twice as many of us as there are black Americans. It is not cool to say that blacks cannot be good people so why it that we are fair game?

Further, I happen to be a conservative republican and on that point, I find myself on the receiving end of derision from liberal democrats because I think that people ought to have a chance to better their own lives and not just depend on some do-good social agenda that lets them remain what amounts to the “idle poor”.

The tide is definitely

The tide is definitely turning. We just need to keep it up. We have to out last them. Although I must say it is a dangerous position we're in. It only takes one person to get the fanatics all riled up. Remember McCarthy? I hope people aren't stupid enough to let that happen again. But I wouldn't put it passed them.

Given the remarkable number

Given the remarkable number of asshole christians that patronize this site, the incredible number of fish emblems on cars that people can't drive worth a damn, and the uncountable number of crimes committed and later repented by christians....

I have to say that we are a christian nation. And it sucks.

We're fucking full of christianity.

One would think that religious exclusion from politics would be a GREAT thing given the number of evil politicians espousing the christian faith. And vice versa.

Instead! They love each other. Politicians use 'faith' to get elected. Christians use politicians to push their agenda.

A man includes 'nonbelievers' in a speech he ended using three references to god and he gets attacked for it.

That's proof enough for me that we are a christian nation. The faith has rendered them in-fucking-capable of listening to an entire speech. They hear 'nonbeliever' and it fucking short-circuits their auditory capabilities beyond that point.

The programming done by christianity probably caused them to break their crayons they were taking notes with at the mere mention of the word 'nonbeliever'.

For fuck's sake, they probably were angry that they didn't get a chance to cover their childrens' ears before he said the word 'nonbeliever'.

[redneck voice] Oh no. The secret muslim that's going to kill our babies and destroy Amurrika just said 'nonbeliever'. Grab the kids and the guns, we gots to head fer the hills! [/redneck]

Ok OK. I'm done. Yeah. This pisses me off.

Funny thing is that I was telling my mom I hope someone makes a stink over this, because it will bring more attention to it. Sure enough, like clockwork, they did.

But it is still up to us to keep our voices high so that this doesn't die down.
