Hair weave stops bullit? WTF?
Offline I don't know who I am more angry at. The stupid woman who claimed that her hairdue stopped a bullit, or the mass media that sold the package as that.
This woman was being shot at by her x-boyfriend. She was sitting in the car and the file footage shows a shattered back windsheild which would indicate that he was outside the car. I would also assume that the bullet passed through other objects or deflected by other objects before ending up in her hair.
BUT, the media made it sound like her hair alone stopped the bullet!
REALLY, does she or the public really think if there was nothing between the gun and her head, the outcome would have been the same?
I am glad she survived, but PLEASE!
I FUCKING HATE THE CREDULITY OF PEOPLE, BUT I AM MORE PISSED OFF AT THE MEDIA FOR DUMBING DOWN GULLIBLE PEOPLE!

The police are creating a new policy that hair weaves will be worn in addition to their bullet proof vests. As for the media, if a story attracts readers, then they will print it. Sad but true.

Hey, I work with a lot of girls who sport hairweaves and some of those structures can be up to 17 inches tall(one popular 'do' resembles a pope hat)packed with armatures and glue and grease and I think could reasonably be used as crash helmets
Eden had a 25% murder rate and incest was rampant.

Could it really be bad if people started wearing hair armour? It'll just speed up natural selection.

OK, having read the article, I can say that it is in fact possible. However, for a reasonable judgment, I would have to know details that are just not presented. Case in point:
On October 14, 1912, while running for his third term as president, someone shot Teddy Roosevelt in the chest. As an experienced hunter, he realized that because he was not coughing up blood, the bullet would not have penetrated very far. In fact, it went through his eye glass case and his speech before lodging in his chest.
So he decided to give his speech anyway. Off the cuff, he improved one of the coolest opening lines ever: "Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose." He then spoke for about an hour and a half.
Anyway, if the boyfriend was shooting a small caliber, low power round, it is certainly possible for it to have happened the way that the article says. That being said, I think that Brian is right to call shens on this. If the bullet lodged in her hair piece, then it was probably going to go over her head otherwise.

Basically, they are a group of retired guys (mostly police officers) who run halfway decent shooting tests and post them up for your enjoyment. The tests really are not rigorous enough to be called scientific but they are about as accurate as what you see on Myth Busters.

If we are going to debate economics, my right wing friend, you'd have better ammo.
But if you watch the footage I saw what is more reasonable is that the bullet was severly slowed down by the objects it went through before it reached her hair and she complained of having a headache, which would mean by the time it hit her skull it was slow enough not to penetrate her skull and the hair by that time was merely the final "net", no pun intended.
Again, if that bullet had not passed through any objects it would have been higly likely the outcome would have been worse, or even deadly.
Eyeglasses back then were coke bottle thickness and the metal frames were much heavier. Not to mention you fail to take into angle and distance. And glass and metal are thicker than "hair", so are skulls.
I have heard of people getting shot in the head but because of the angle the skull was merely bruzed.
Her survival had alot to do with angle distance and objects in the way.

When I first read this I believed it. I read a story that said that once someone was shot in the chest and the bullet could not penetrate the silk scarf in his pocked. It still gouged him a bit, but it wasn't fatal. I thought that perhaps her weave was thick nylon or something and it caught the bullet. It doesn't sound unbelievable. It makes sense that the bullet was slowed down by other things first though. Even if her weave could catch bullets she would still be badly hurt if a round travelling at high velocity struck her head.
