Christians and christians?

Is there a difference between
an atheist and an Atheist?

I think so. I don't know why other Atheists here and there don't.

Enlighten me.

 One begins a sentence, and

One begins a sentence, and the other occurs after the initial capital?

I honestly have no idea what you're asking.

A capital at the begining of a sencance for any word is normal. A capital letter at the begining of a word in the middle of a sencance is taken as a title of importance.

Jew and Christian or Muslim as being started with capital letters define (all be it narscisitically to the particular club) as a demand for automatic respect, like Dr, Captian, as if authority is always infalible.

"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and nonbelievers."Obama

 I still don't get it.

I still don't get it.  What would an Atheist be that an atheist is not?

Atheists, and christians, capitalized or not, are human beings with individual views on many things, so you will always be able to find ways to distinguish at least two categorize based on some measure, as with any other nominal group.

As a way of labeling different categories, it is not a good way, not least because it relies on a distinction which is not always going to be clear, as when the word is at the start of the sentence, or when used in an article title where often all significant words are capitalized, and so on.

If you want to discuss some particular significant difference in viewpoint or manner or whatever you have noticed, which you think matches the different connotation the two ways of writing the word suggest to you, feel free to tell us about it.

Oh, oh, oh...one is capitalized and the other isn't?

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

In a nutshell...

Obfuscation of Atheist pride.

Have some when theists throw a capital letter in your direction. Are you less important than them?!

So, when they refer to us in the lowercase, we should be more angry than we already are?

Nobody I know was brainwashed into being an atheist.

And what of "aTHEIST"? Some

And what of "aTHEIST"? Some claim it's just a problem of caps-lock, but what if it means something else?

"Anyone can repress a woman, but you need 'dictated' scriptures to feel you're really right in repressing her. In the same way, homophobes thrive everywhere. But you must feel you've got scripture on your side to come up with the tedious 'Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve' style arguments instead of just recognising that some people are different." - Douglas Murray

LOL Must resist urge to post caps lock motivational poster...

The most popular response

The most popular response seems to be:

"I don't get it."

Personally, I prefer:

"Huh?"

(It shows my intelligence.)

I never capitalize atheism

I never capitalize atheism unless it's the beginning of a sentence. I generally don't capitalize the names of religions because they don't deserve the respect that granting a capitalization grants. However, on the off chance that I get an impression from a theist that they are intelligent enough to remove their shackles, I do sometimes capitalize those religions simply to avoid the negative emotions that can arise from such a disrespect. Most of the time I'm not talking to someone in such a position, or I'm talking to someone who is capable of discerning my intent. In these cases, I'll not capitalize something that has no business being capitalized.

Enlightened Atheist, Gaming God.

Should us A(a)thiests use

Should us A(a)thiests use 'God' or 'god' or 'the christian god'?

Christ means 'the Messiah' or 'the Anointed One'. So isn't Jesus Christ like it's his last name totally wrong?

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

I just busted 13 ribs... laughing at the last few responses. I'm running out of ribs!

I can't beat this thread. (But I'll try!)
