I am not surprised at all. I

I am not surprised at all. I haven't seen it in Iraq myself but I have heard of people handing out Bibles in sector.

Makes little sense to me, why hand out some crazy holy book in a language they can't even read? Hell, a lot of them can hardly read Arabic.

Who says there's no atheists in foxholes?

Translated Bibles

Makes little sense to me, why hand out some crazy holy book in a language they can  't even read? Hell, a lot of them can hardly read Arabic                      The Bibles that the soldiers passed out were translated into 2 or 3 languages ,so that the Afghan people could read them .   PS. I hope that they read them and become Atheist !

If you want to read more

If you want to read more about the problem go to:

http://www.militaryreligiousfreedom.org/about.html

Read what's going on with our military's marriage to dominion christianity.  Scares the bejesus outta me.  The soldiers handing out the bibles are recruited in boot camp or OCS.  Non-believers are harrassed for conversion or exclusion in those training centers.  Non-believers have been threatened, assaulted and their carreers have suffered or disappeared.

I believe a majority of chaplains in the chaplaincy are dominion christians and their goal is the total take-over of all branches of the military.  They "pledge allegience" to the constitution but they abide by their god which many of them admit they will disobey in favor of god's work.  In Iraq their goal is the same there except in one respect; Iraqi's they don't convert will be killed.

I know I sound like a nutcase right now but, it's truly happening.  I visit this website regularly and keep updated.  It's scary what's going on in our military.  Their ideal is a christian army that will seek satan out to destroy him.  Regardless of how many non-fanatical christians and non-beleivers, I guess they're the same in the dominion's view, have to be killed.

And the worst thing, top generals in the Pentagon are fully aware of the proselytizing in the military and turn a blind eye to it.  Several of them, including Petraeus are dominionists.  Some of them have sites on MySpace and Facebook and they all stink of a modern day crusades.  The Etablishment Clause is taking a beating.

While you're at it check out Americans United at:    http://members.au.org/site/PageServer

Both organizations are deeply involved in trying to correct the problem of religion through the courts whenever necessary.  Lots of good info on both websites.

The military has it's

The military has it's problems but in reailty I have seen little in the way of harrasment or threats.

I am an atheist serving in the US Army and at first I was hestitant to admit my atheism. In fact yesterday I was in a convoy taking an informant to a big FOB and we were required to fill out our battle rosters for our vehicle FBCB2. My platoon sergeant asked me my religion and I said atheist but I think I hesitated a little. All of the guys in my platoon know where I stand very clearly and the chaplains in my unit know as well and I never get any flak from them at all.

As atheists lets not develope a persecution complex like everyone else has.

Funny story, at Fort Hood I was on a detail to set up come C-Wire and we were bullshitting about extrememist we met in the Army. I mentioned a guy I went to basic with who had "DIE NI**ER DIE" tattooed on his forearm. The funny thing is is that I noticed while he was getting smoked by a Black Drill Sergeant. Then this other guy pops out with "Yeah man, we even had an ATHEIST in my unit!"

Who says there's no atheists in foxholes?
