Disaster Capitalism

I was listening to Naomi Klein talk at the 100th anniversary of "The Progressive" in which she was explaining "The Shock Doctrine" her book about capitalism, and I was wondering if we have any Naomi fans here,I think that she's a great thinker.

I'm a big fan (though not so

I'm a big fan (though not so much of her support for radicals such as Mullah Al Sadr; not all of the enemies of my enemies I would call 'friends'). 'The Shock Doctrine' more or less lays out before the reader all of the faults and insanities of capitalism, and seeing them all so clearly illustrated like that is a nice way of giving one's head a shake.

'Logo' I think is perhaps one of my top 5 non-fiction reads ever. Largely by chance, I was never a 'brand name' loyalist anyway; after I read that, it raised my consciousness sufficiently to avoid large brand names (particularly Nike) like the bloated carcass of a muskrat.

Quote:
"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

Who is the author of 'Logo' and how often do you come across the bloated carcass of a muskrat? I, myself, don't think I've ever seen one. Thanks!

god -- I tried you on for size.... you were a little long in the crotch, loose in the waist, short in the length and you made my butt look extra flat. I had to take you back for an exchange.

The full name of the book is "No Logo" by Naomi Klein, who has also did a documentary called "The Take" which is about the Argentinians workers who did not accept the shut down of their textile factory, instead they took over the factory .The workers in Chicago did the same thing at a windows and doors factory, and I think it happened four or five times  in Canada too,at car manufactures. This kind of civil disobedience has to done in many other factories, fire the boss, eat the rich !       www.thetake.org/
