My mom inadvertantly let my birthday gift(sept 9) out of the bag. I told her I wanted "Infidel" by Ayaan Hersi Ali. I went to vistit her for our regular weekly dinner, and she keeps a brush for me in a drawer so I can brush my hair before we go to the cafeteria(she lives in an assisted living home).
Anywho, I get there, open the drawer where my brush is, and I see a book next to it, cover face down. I thought she merely stuck one of her books in there, I turned it over thinking it was one of her books. SUPRISE!
So now that I know, I tease her because she is Catholic, I do a "help me" voice (being the voice of the book) "Dont leave me here, your mom will try to convert me".
That is my long winded way of saying "Infidel" by Ayaan Hersi Ali,
Other books:
1984
Animal Farm
The Oedipus Trilogies
Medea
Billy Bud
(end list)
To name a few.
Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, for any atheist, if you haven't read by now, you are way behind.

Yes ! Carl Sagan is excellent. I already read " A Candle in the Dark " I think every kid before he or she graduates from high school ,should have to read this eye-opener book. Mandatory reading.

Yes they all look like they would be very interesting, but the one that sticks out is "Physics of the Impossible"by Michio Kaku.I just watched a show last week on the Science channel "Cheat Sheet" and he was the Scientist that answered the questions.

Thank's for the suggestions,I was wondering what "Billy Bud" is about. Your into Orwell , he's a must read,I got a cut out from a magazine, with his picture, when he was selling his book "1984" and with a quote from him that reads "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a Human face for ever". I always surprised when people say to me "did your ever read 1984"and I say yes,a long time ago, then I ask them if they ever read "Homage to Catalonia"by George Orwell, and they say No,and I haven't even heard of it,so then I tell them that when he was a private and a corporal in the Spanish Civil War ,fighting the communist and that although he considered himself a Socialist ,he was Anti-Stalinist,not anti-Marxist.Check it out.

It is a story about a guy who joins the military(1700s 0r 1800s) on a ship. The Captain is an abusive prick to everyone on the ship. (Dont want a spoiler if you are going to read it.)
