Harry Potter is an Atheist
Esquire Magazine published this quote from Daniel Radcliffe, the actor most famous for playing the young wizard, Harry Potter. This is particularly funny since Harry Potter is already hated by a large part of the Christian community. Now they have an extra reason to hate it.
I'm an atheist, but I'm very relaxed about it. I don't preach my atheism, but I have a huge amount of respect for people like Richard Dawkins who do. Anything he does on television, I will watch.
Atheism isn't a lot like religion at all. Unless by "religion" you mean "not religion". --Ciarin

Everyone knew HP was the devil. Now this is rock solid proof.
Oh Daniel bless your godless little heart. Imagine the little ones who will hear this and know it is okay to seperate the fantasy world from the rational world no matter what mommy and daddy say. Jesus was real tired after the resurrection. So when he came to an inn, he put three nails on the counter and said to the Innkeeper "Can you put me up for the night?" "Sacred cows make the best hamberger." (Mark Twain) Did you hear about the guy who told religious jokes; he was put on the Sects Offenders List.

I mentioned this at work yesterday and my Christian co-worker, half hartedly joking said, "You'll have good company in hell".
How the fuck does one scramble their own brains to justify such a concept? Hell according to most is eternal and unimaginable pain. That is not justice, that is torture and revenge.
I find that comment insulting. Not personally, I am used to that crap being spewed. I find it insulting to human intellect and dignity. Revenge and torture are what the Taliban do.
In any case, it is nice to see such a popular figure out as an atheist, and it will surely undermine the myths parents teach their kids.
Anyone want to guess how long it takes the right wing nutjobs, who have already protested the movie series, to have a book burning over his anouncement?
AND I read the interview, another good thing about this guy is that he is not just an atheist by label, he educates himself by reading Dawkins and the like.
I know of a couple of people locally who call themselves atheists, but do not do anything to educate themselves as to why they hold that position. Those people to me are easy pickings for a slick apologist.

Sweet, a book burning!
How long has it actually been since there was a good old fashioned community book burning? There should be more of them, stuff like that breeds atheists by the bucket load.
I cant wait for some fundies to go into rage about this. That will be so fun to watch.
I will even go to the movie, instead of downloading it. Such comment clearly states, that he doesn't give a shit about fundies going crazy about the books. And that deserves my money.
I don't know much about Harry Potter, but he is always portrait as a wizard in training, not a Atheist.

Well, what Daniel Rdacliffe does not believe in does not affect my life all that much. Although I would like to compliment the British parliament for passing the strictest gun control laws on the planet. If they had allowed guns then Robert Knox would have been murdered in a bar fight and Rowling would have to have rewritten the last novel before it could be filmed due to the loss of a character. Oh wait...
=
And he's not much of a Michael Jackson fan either, apparently!
I swear this kid just keeps getting better and better every half second. If I were 10 minutes younger...
I did read it before ,but I didn't know who he was until I read your post. Like Radcliff ,I to keep my ear on alert , about Richard Dawkins, who just put out a new book " The Greatest Show on Earth" check out his web site www.RichardDawkins.net
Signature ? How ?
Rowling and Redcliff both.
Books banned and burned
Movies protested and banned, now openly starring atheist
Old wise mentor now openly gay (despite recent death)
The fundamentalists have fought Harry Potter, and yet they lost. The series is still more popular than any fantasy since Tolkein at least, and internationally so. This despite theist's efforts of censorship. Truly remarkable stuff.
And I'm glad Redcliff had the courage to make such an announcement. I'm not familiar with the atmosphere in Britain, but the lead actor revealing his atheism in an already religiously-assaulted work takes guts in most any country these days.

You know what scares me about humanity? How easly what is clearly fiction is later twisted, over time to be sold as fact. It would not suprise me if some nutcases, say 50 or 100 years from now started a Harry Potter cult.
There is a toung and cheak club in the U.K. that pretends to worship "The Force", but I also wonder with that if at some point some delusional people will join, gain populairty and start selling it as a prophacy and turn Luke Skywalker into a god.
Scientology was based on the delusional fans of a science fiction writer and now millions worship L. Ron Hubbard as a real prophet(not that there is such a thing).

It would have been far stranger if he had come out as religious, being openly religious (at least as a christian) is extremely rare in England at least , in Northern Ireland of course you are a catholic/protestant even if you're an atheist.
Not to say there arent religious nutjobs out here but they keep it quiet (no politican could get elected if they were openly religious)

Yeah, why is it again that we're considered the wacky ones? A literary professor creating a dialogue between two fictional characters would be kindn of quaint, but I get the feeling this guy is taking it seriously.

Holy shit! He's so insane! Jack Chick is an unstoppable force of crazy!
"What about my Barbies?"
"Hell, obviously"
"My horse statuettes?"
"Idols. They lead to hell."
"Am I allowed to keep anything?"
"Not your bed ... or your underwear, for that matter. Both are just one step away from pornography. From now on, you need to wear sackcloth and live in a cave. That's the only way to serve the Lord."
"So wait ... what's hell like?"

Yes he is crazy.
Yes, people believe the stuff he writes still.
Yes, this seems to be the same kind of thing that founds religions/denominations of religions to split off.
I still don't get it though.
Theism is why we can't have nice things.
I am reminded of this clip yet again.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare
That lady needs to be way less afraid of Harry Potter, and way more afraid of cupcakes.
Jesus loves the fatties!
Damn you and your early release date.. I still dont know when its coming out here in DR :/
Well this sucks.... I think I´m gonna have to wait till mid-august...
Dang, I should move to England.
Or, more conveniently, England should move here.

"So you are an atheist. Were you an atheist when you made the first Harry Potter film?"
"No."
"There you have it. Proof positive Harry Potter causes atheism and must be banned."
