The Global Apartheid
I happened to find this interesting picture today and was curious about weather this perspective is shared in the developed world. In your opinion do the Breton Woods institutions (IMF WTO and World Bank) help create and maintain a global division between the rich and the poor, the haves and the have nots etc. Do there policies help benefit a few in the country and harm the majority of the people leading to poverty and debt servicing, where most the money generated by a country is used to pay back huge debts instead of helping the countries develop, educate there people fight Aids etc. Or do they genuinely help countries improve the lives of there citizens and it is because of bad leadership etc. that these countries remain poor.

Well, there are people doing legitimate work, I know that. However, that does not mean that it is all legitimate. I once saw a documentary about Jamaica. It was basically about how the US (wow, their basically super villains, it seems) has been making bad deals with Jamaica making them look like aid. For instance it said that the US gave Jamaica 5 million dollars (although that's what I remember it seems really low, it might have been 5 billion) that they had to spend on food imports from the US. This guarantees a market for American farmers so that American citizens can fill their pockets. Also, it keeps Jamaica poor because now local farmers (who can produce more than enough food for the country) have nowhere to sell their food. The imported food also ends up selling for cheaper in the markets!
I think that there are many shrewd economic dealings like this. Also international fishing/dumping, although more indirectly, helps to keep people poor.
Look as I see it America just takes advantage of the system the Breton Woods institutions introduce. Although the untied states basically controls them. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't really have a problem with free trade if everyone played fair. But for example America subsidize Agriculture so they have an advantage (With IMF money comes the policy that you may not subsidize any industry) because the US do this they are able to undercut price's of local agriculture in may places, take away those subsidies and Americas agriculture suffers what makes it worse is countries cannot even protect there farmers from this as tariffs are also banned under imf policy. China for example ignores copyright laws(also they pay workers nothing) and as such can flood poor countries with cheap products expessially textiles. This breaks down countries just beginning manufacturing sectors. Now you can blame the countries or the institutions that have put the other countries at a disadvantage. That is how I see it. The root is the countries that control these institutions but without these institutions this wouldn't be possible.
