I hate "miracle" when it comes to "escaping death"
Every so often the bullshit word "miracle" is used in news stories to describe someone who escaped death.
What these idiots don't understand is that there is a difference between clinical death and permanent death.
All clinical death means is that the doctors cannot detect vital signs. If it was possible to escape permanent death, one would be able to chop of their head, or blow their brains out, and survive.
Once there is enough damage to body cells and enough time where there is no motion in the body cells you are dead, period. You cannot revive a body that has suffered rigor mortis.
When you hear about someone "surviving" death, all that means is that the doctors managed to revive the person before permanent death set in.
There is no magic in this, even when the doctors cant explain why it happened, they can state the obvious, that if one "comes back", all that happened is that the vital signs were under the radar, and or that there was still enough time to reverse the situation.
You either die and stay dead, or you don't but there is no fucking magic in it.
There is a grey area in time to allow for a comeback in certain medical situations, but again, no fucking bearded man in a robe is manipulating the doctors hands or your body cells.
I WANT TO SMACK THE CRAP out of the reporters who spread this garbage.
If we are going to go by this idiotic standard, then when the nurse cant find a vein to give you a shot, you must be a vampire.
When is humanity going to grow the fuck up?

One can always hope, but I'd say that the prognosis isn't looking too good.

I also hate it because it has the inverse problem - if god loved you so much to save you from the brink of death, he must have really hated little bobby who lingered on that same brink and then died. It's not because you are better than little bobby, or lived a better life, or god wanted bobby with him more - you got lucky, bobby didn't.
But I always wonder how people whose loved ones don't survive in situations like that feel when someone attributes the continued living of their loved one due to god. (even in a natural disaster situation, god saved you, but let 10 thousand other people croak? Really? You're that special?)

That's when all the nutty clergy say "it's a mystery", "god works in mysterious ways", and other total garbage! Why don't they just say "I have no fucking idea!!". LMAO!
Religions like Hinduism and Buddhism explain that better through Karma i.e. you lived and thousands others died because it's due to your past Karma which basically means they committed sins/bad acts in previous lives while you must've done something fantastic in a previous life. That's why you survived and they didn't.
Unfortuantely there's no evidence of that either but at least it's better than saying "it's a mystery" and "I have no idea" like the Christnuts do!!

Defying the odds only means you got lucky. "miracle" is a bullshit gap word. Why not just say, "they got lucky".
Do these idiots really think a magic hand is manipulating the cells in your body? If one can accept that cancer, for example, is not caused by a man with a pitchfork, why the fuck would a man in white robe be anymore responsible for your survival or death?
Grow up humanity! There is no god anymore than Thor makes lighting.

It was ZEUS who made lightning. Thor was HAMMER of the gods.

Actually, with few adaptations, they are the same creature.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

Don't go changing Sapph - your expression looks like an appropriate reaction to a large number of the theist posts we have to deal with on here. One day I'll take the mask off and reveal the real horror...

'Miracle' from some hack reporter is right up there, for me, with the athlete who points skyward like his deity-of-choice guided his body.
If that's your deity's focus then you need to apologise to some of the poor sods in <enter_name_of_region_here> that just got hit by <enter_name_of_natural_disaster_here>, you theistic twat!
How can not believing in something that is backed up with no empirical evidence be less scientific than believing in something that not only has no empirical evidence but actually goes against the laws of the universe and in many cases actually contradicts itself? - Ricky Gervais
I don't know about this... It seems a little nitpicky. "Miracle", in common daily speech, seems to me to mostly just be shorthand for "we can't really explain what happened but it really worked out for the better and we're all tremendously happy about it". That is, unless you next move on to credit some supernatural force or entity. If we are going to eradicate such concepts and be entirely accurate, we'll have to discard such concept as luck and accident as well, I believe. There is always a cause for things, even if we can't understand it there and then, or indeed ever.

What really gets my goat is when people talk about the guy that was walking down the street and then hit by a drunk driver (well... hit by his CAR) and ended up a quadruplegic and with permanent brain damage, and was "so lucky!' because he lived.
I think we should all thank God that he was so lucky! It's a miracle!
