Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for posting this. I've seen this guy on a few BBC panel shows ("Never Mind The Buzzcocks", mostly), and I heard his Edinburgh festival show was a full house every time, but I never heard a whole song of his.

Some of Storm's "arguments" sound familiar though.

This video is a great fun,

This video is a great fun, because that girl has typically exaggerated Saggitarian behavior Smiling You know, absolutistic preaching of otherworldly, dogmatic ideals unto others. Doesn't matter if that's a medieval priest in front of illiterate crowd, or New Agey girl, or elderly scientific authority,  it's the same model of behavior. There is nothing to be proud, if a person of certain sign expresses mainly vices of that sign, not virtues. That's it, astrology is about watching out to not be a dick, whatever kind of star sign you are!

As for pharmaceutical companies, did your media also admit recently the gigantic scam with swine flu vaccines? Smiling

Well, too bad I can't go on much of a rant, because nobody would get my point. If everyone are so fucking proud of observation and experiments, why don't they check out all these so-called pseudosciences for themselves? That would be too much of work, so let's consume mainstream, popularized, commercialized science, instead. The market forces are so benevolent to us.

When I first heard "Storm" a

When I first heard "Storm" a couple years ago, I thought, "Eh, not bad, but kinda annoying." Then I started hearing more and more about Tim Minchin. Finally, I watched a couple of his videos playing songs live, and I was much more impressed. I guess I thought Storm was a one-off by an unknown comedian. But Minchin is consistently punchy comedically and is quite talented musically, as well as a good performer on stage, using quirky facial expressions and body language to tweak the audience into laughter. And when he starts playing a complex but fluid solo on his grand piano, it just makes you go, "Wow. That guy's actually damn good!" You might say that he grew on me since I first heard "Storm"....

Tim Minchin's "You Grew on Me"

Another somewhat-more-serious one, "Not Perfect"

 Wow Luminon... semi-rare

Wow Luminon... semi-rare form today.  What was the scam with the swine flu vaccines?  They don't tell us here, the government is always keeping us out of the loop in matters of medicine.  The only thing I heard recently is that the fda just approved a new tin foil hat to protect us from microwaves.  On my way to buy one for you now.

No, I don't mean the government, or whatever. I don't watch TV, a) I mostly live in a dorm, and b) I get all the news through internet.  So if I ask if you know about some news, it means I have no idea when, where and if they were aired on foreign TV. Government conspiracy is not the first thing that comes to my mind Smiling You see, in that case it's also the government, that got ripped off, and it's european health chief, who (WHO) says it.
The message is here, on Daily Mail british news.

Btw, I don't watch TV for the same reasons I don't drink milk or alcohol - nothing personal, it's just obsolete. Instead, I've got computer with internet, coffee and meditation. That's the alternative life style I guess. On next Xmas I should wish a Linux distribution and a pack of tin foil Smiling

Amazing find, latincanuck.

Amazing find, latincanuck.

Solipsistic and post-modern attacks on science and knowledge of the natural world are a big pet peeve of mine. But, I suppose that isn't a unique thing to say on a site of atheists.

My good friends Single Malt Scotch, Pilsner and Cabernet disagree. Those are as relevant as ever.

careful, luminon is from the land of pilsener.  the original was brewed in and named after plzen, czech republic.

i'm not a fan of pilsener myself.  too bitter.  i enjoy gambrinus, budvar, samson, and cerna hora.  as for slovak beer, it's saris all the way.

I mean, since I became rather good at Transmission Meditation, I tend to have beautiful, blissful states of being, nearly daily. And right now, to some degree.  It is actually similar to being well in happy, but not jovial drunk mood, but I can still drive. Alcohol surely has it's culture, tradition and purpose, but I've rewired my brain into magnifier of positive vibes and it feels damn good. The funny thing is, that it's not an emotion, it's my inner state of being, so when it changes into neutrality, it's my state of being again, and there is no abstinential syndrome.
I doubt that scientists can re-create human mind - this is example, that there are mental phenomena that they haven't yet mapped. Or have they?

Eh, Red wine that I have

Eh, Red wine that I have just goes great with the steak I am having, the white wine I got from Chile is great with my pasta and my desert wine, well it's just great by itself for after dinner if I feel like having one. Beer is great for....well it's just great. No need to get drunk, just for the taste of it.

Don't like the taste of beer

Don't like the taste of beer in general, although I have only sampled a few varieties, mostly German.

On a tour of Europe we actually went on a tour of the brewery in Pilzn, and we were offered a sample, but I couldn't summon up the will to try it, on the very slight chance I might like it.

It was still an interesting tour.

as far as red wine goes, i

as far as red wine goes, i prefer anything very dry and full-bodied.  a spanish wine has never let me down.  period.  be it cheap or moderately priced.  my personal favorite is campo viejo rioja, but it's a bit pricey.  italian reds are no better, but more expensive.  i appreciate french reds, particularly burgundy, but they're usually not up to my tastes as far as a good standard red goes, especially in the area of price.  the typical slovak red wine, frankovka modra, is also good, and very cheap.

chilean and south african reds are usually too bright and fruity for me.  some of the bolder australian shirazes are really good.  they tend to bring an excellent smokiness.

but when in doubt, i buy spanish.  i've never been disappointed.

i don't really care for whites at all.  dry sherry is fine, and so is slovak or hungarian tokaj.  i suppose german riesling is all right as well.  i also like vermouth bianco or extra dry.  for a white to capture my fancy, it has to be very aromatic.  i don't like chardonnays or pinot grigios, for example, but of course i'll drink them if nothing else is available.

I've got all 3 of his

I've got all 3 of his albums.  I actually find him a bit hit and miss to be honest.  Some of his material is laugh out loud funny, while other bits should really be avoided.  Gold is gold though Smiling
