"Specifically, liberalism

"Specifically, liberalism and atheism, and for men (but not women), preference for sexual exclusivity correlate with higher intelligence, a new study finds."

There is no correlation between smarter women and sexual exclusivity? Damn evolutionary double standards.

Interesting

Of course not all these characteristics would be expressed all at once and all the time in a person. The business of sexual exclusivity - well. Almost all men would fall over on that one, from a lusting point of view, anyway.

I wonder what other major evolutionary characteristics there are that clever people might spurn... Sociability? Male group bonding at the football? For women, maybe they'd reject traditional roles - not marry or do kids?

There'd have to be a wide range than this, if the research is true.

When will people stop using

When will people stop using IQ tests for any reason other than identifying developmental issues in young children. I've voiced my complaints against IQ tests on this forum before, so I won't bore everyone with them again. This study is based on IQ tests that measure human intelligence on a one dimensional scale and placing people on a one dimensional scale of political opinions. That's fucking ridiculous. How could people take this seriously?

Also, what makes the author think that "intelligent" is defined as "not following historical norms?" I mean, staying up late isn't a historical norm so intelligent people stay up late? Really? I don't think that's what "intelligence" means.

I know you were joking, but: where does libertarianism fall in the false dichotomy between liberals and conservatives?

Like guns? Then you have to hate gays and want to ban abortion.

Like affirmative action? Then you must also support higher taxes and a command economy while opposing school vouchers.

Luckily, all political thought lies along a one dimensional scale and can be split up between the stupid conservatives and the smart liberals. Good thing all of politics is that neat and simple.

I wonder if the authors of this paper really think that political thought can be measured on a one dimensional scale. But then, they think that all of human intelligence can be measured by a one dimensional scale. So, maybe?

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

[sarcasm] Oh you people and your diversity of thought. Can't you just fit into the nice little straw basket they've made for you? [/sarcasm]

I am dirt poor. But I

I am dirt poor. But I wouldn't give up my class status for the knowledge I have to trade places with the guy who owns the place I work. He is a nice enough guy, but hardly a deep intellectual. His head would explode if I tried to explain things like Pascal's wager, infinite regress, entropy......ect ect ect. He is a weekend worshiper, votes republican yadda yadda yadda."

He thinks he has everything. He has what he wants, sure. But he doesn't have what counts.

While agree that there is much more than the "Wife, kids and suburban house" package, if he has all he wants what would having something more do for him?

Personally, I think that its pretty obvious if you seek intellectual stimulation then you're going to try new things. Stout conservative may find that they love breaking social norms but they either never try or if they do they are filled with too much guilt from prior conditioning to have fun.

I also find that people who enjoy intellectual stimulation also score higher on IQ test. You know, from all the practice.

I am not saying people cant be happy in their credulity. I am saying I would not trade my life for his if it meant giving up the knowledge I have now.  He still doesn't have what counts. I am sure he feels he has everything he wants. That is not my point.
