Black holes are just a theory according to this nutcase.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/90885039.html?commentSubmitted=y&refresh=9163&page=5#comments

DONT READ THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE, IT WAS A COMMENT FROM A POSTER CALLED "THE COUNT" not the article itself.

[quote:The Count]brianrrs37:"I hope your science teacher gave you an "f". What's the next silly question, "You cant see air, but you know it exists"?...We know black holes exist the same way we know wind exists. We observe the affects of the objects it comes in contact with".

Since you must conclude that you are intellectually superior and that I am lazy, I will state that black holes are still considered a theory by many.

I am well aware of what's been written about them including Stephen Hawkins Therory of Everything. I am also aware that scientist state that the evidence for black holes are the effect that they have on the objects around them. I also know that several weeks ago that they tried to simulate a black hole using the Haldron Collider to smash atoms. There was some in the science community that felt like if one was created it would destroy the earth.

However, if you read the link you supplied you would see that there is no concrete evidence that they actually found one. They have candidates but not the undeniable evidence.

My example of using black holes probably wasn't the best to use, but it's comparable to you're approach to God. The evidence surrounds you, you just refuse to accept it!

Gave him the NASA website that explained what black holes were.

http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/science/know_l2/black_holes.html

AND HERE WAS MY RESPONSE TO THIS TRIPE:

Quote:

Ok I doubt the people at NASA call "black holes" a "theory" like you want to treat it. There IS A DIFFERENCE between a layperson's "guess" and a scientific theory which is based on MOUNTAINS of prior data.

Why don't you ask Neil Degrasse Tyson(astrophysicist) if he thinks black holes are "just a theory". Same crappy argument when people try to treat "theory" like some bumb on the street would treat evolution as just a "theory".

Black holes are scientific reality. Same stupid doge. I bet you think gravity is "just a theory" too.

I hate that you cant edit an op. I SCREWED UP THE QUOTE

where I quoted him quoting me started out:

HIM QUOTING ME:"brianrrs37:"I hope your science teacher gave you an "f". What's the next silly question, "You cant see air, but you know it exists"?...We know black holes exist the same way we know wind exists. We observe the affects of the objects it comes in contact with".(he was quoting me)"

THEN HE SAID:

There is no group in the natural sciences community that "felt like if one was created it would destroy the earth." Such insecure, doomsday bullcrap is only pedaled by the religious, the paranoid, and/or anyone that's ignorant.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

Well Brian, I would really love to rip that guy a new asshole. However, they would just delete it right away.

If you want to add something from me though, you can start with his bit about Stephen Hawking's Theory of Everything. It is a really ignorant attribution. Hawking has, in fact, written on the idea that a ToE is not even a valid part of science.

You can also mention that much of Hawking's work on the physics of black holes has been fully discredited. The fact is that he has been shown to have made some massive errors on the specific nature of black holes.

If you want something specific about the detection of black holes, you could try mentioning that there are stars close to the center of the galaxy that are in fairly close orbits around some of the larger ones and they are clearly measured as moving far faster than is possible if no black hole is present (BTW, there appear to be two supermassive black holes at the center of the galaxy which are orbiting each other).

I think this only applies to the "war" he had going with Leonard Susskind, about the entropy of information at the singularity. It was resolved by an arcane theory of how it "smears" on the event horizon. The negative-positive pair of virtual particles hasn't been refuted yet. My memory of this is a little skewed though. I would google to check how that played out before referring to it.

Part of the problem is that

Part of the problem is that people confuse the word "Theory"...with "Conjecture"...

Most people don't understand that in order for the scientific community to give credence to any particular "theory"... that it must be supported by sufficient evidence... Which is why christians don't believe evolution... in their tiny little minds, it was just some idea that Darwin had while watching Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp...

Black Holes exist

We have seen Black Holes eating stars for crying out loud. The question in my mind is if singularities really exist or if we have black stars.

I think that singularities exist. If the star gets massive enough that its gravitational force over powers electrostatic repulsion and nuclear repulsion then the star could become the size of an atom. General Relativity is the most experimentally verified theory that man has, I think. There are some inaccuracies in supermassive (correction for speed of spiral galaxy spins and on the quantum scale - we have no quantum gravity.)

Creationist always want the world to end. Jesus will return as a black hole created in particle accelerator. Jesus will tears the believers to pieces. Yummy christians.

Well, either it's a highly-lauded theory of physics or it's a highly-lauded theory of physics. I don't see what the problem between you two is, Brian37, except that he seems to enjoy wasting people's time - including yours.

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)
