The church down the street.

I pass 3 churches on my 1 mile drive to work daily. I went to play disc golf today and passed it on the way there. A woman was setting the sign up with a cute weekly saying. I think last week it was "walk in son-shine" or some such. On my return trip I got to see what they put up. "If man came from apes, why are there still apes."

Notice there is no question mark, it is a statement. I'm seriously considering making a posterboard sign with the answer and driving it in the ground by this retarded message. The message is meant to play on a simple mind and it is going to annoy me everytime I drive past it.

Any good idea's on a simple and short answer that even a redneck might understand? All I can come up with is not very short, something like "the apes here today went down a different evolutionary path due to natural selection but some of them visit this church weekly."

Faith is the word but next to that snugged up closely "lie's" the want.

I saw a nice threatening one

I saw a nice threatening one this week, "No sun block will save you in Hell". Just in time for summer.

And sun block won't save me from Harry Potter either. I am sooooooooooooo scared.

I posted about it on a local

I posted about it on a local news channel forum, see if they say anything about it. I kinda doubt it, both of the local stations cater to the religious.

Here is the thing though. When dealing with laypersons and lexicons we have to remember that "offensive" to us doesn't mean the same thing as "offensive" to every day people.

IT IS OFFENSIVE, but not in a "name calling sense". It is offensive to the intellect and to fact. Just as it would be offensive to fact to claim the earth was flat. Just as it would be offensive to claim that Glen Beck was our first President. The Glen Beck part would be irrelevant (all be it offensive by itself) It would merely be offensive because it wasn't true.

Nope. Some species are evolutionary dead-ends. Take humans, for example...

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)

This seems increasingly correct. After all, Mother Nature does know best...

If Americans came from

If Americans came from Europeans, why are there still Europeans?

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

Another good one. And very

Another good one. And very relevant to the concept. Modern Americans and modern Europeans both descended from a common ancestral population. I like this, though "why is there still dirt?" is just asinine enough to provoke more thought from a theist.

It's right next to a SCHOOL, this makes it even more offensive to me. It's like telling the public the earth is flat, yea it should offend anyone with a brain.

Incidentally Robj

My predicament must equal yours. I have a church directly across my narrow, inner city street, our windows threateningly adjacent down long corner blocks, like the gunports of galleons. I have to listen to the god people howling to jesus every sunday. Morning and evening, they bay. Then during the week the youths squealingly tweet to teen-lord and there's choir practise saturday - better quality but increased repetition.

It does beg the question. The mighty father's sennheisser 650HD cossetted ears must quail in agony as across millions of channels of his subjectively perfect audio input, the tortured shrieks of people like my mother, failing to hit the high notes, cause the great father to wonder at the definition of worship, to again repent his creation and consider the respite of deluge.

That ought to do it - I have actually considered death metal carefully timed to concide with the prayers. Demon sounds would surely catch their attention...

I'd recommend the

I'd recommend the American/European one.  The one about dirt will just piss 'em off.  At least some of them will put some thought into the American/European, because it doesn't blatantly make fun of them.
