Royal Wedding, people obsessed with other people.

I don't know about anyone else, but it is quite annoying to me how obsessed people are with other peoples lives.  Take this upcoming royal wedding for example, it is EVERYWHERE. Non stop all over my tv.  I'm sitting here having lunch and various channels are on like nonstop wedding watch.  They go on and on and fucking on about

-How's the weather going to be

-What they will be wearing

-How much weight the bride has lost

-People who will attend

-Where the poeple will be sleeping

-Post wedding parties

-What cars they will be driving

etc... yawn

Why do people care so much?   Why are so many people obsessed with other people lives?

Not to mind the sillyness of the royal family in general (no offence to people who love them) I just find the concept of a "royal" family completely rediculous.

I've grown from indifferent

I've grown from indifferent to spiteful regarding this whole affair.  It's just some guy, marrying some girl when it comes down to it.  It's a statement of our sensationalist society that makes the banal seem extraordinary.  The whole thing is quite annoying and falls in the same category as Jersey Shore / reality shows and 99.99% of TV programing.  It's only that I'm so bombarded by it from every media that it's even noteworthy.

From a psychological

From a psychological perspective, I never got how some people make icons out of others. The whole obsession with 'royalty'.

WTF would anyone want to put these fucks up on pedestals?

It really comes across as the same sort of self deprecating that theists have for their 'god'.

No matter your fame, or fortune, or power, no matter where you live in the world or who you are, you still shit and pee and you will die like everyone else.

Two people are getting married. Big whoopty shit. I am tired of it too.

But how is this obsession

But how is this obsession different than sports fans, video gamers, religious fans, etc...? I think it's just escapism.

Also I think there is a natural tendency in many to want to have a king. Just like with a pack of dogs need a top dog, they want an authoritarian figure to lead, make the rules and enforce the rules. Many people lack the confidence to rule themselves.

I am a news junkie and I

I am a news junkie and I couldn't stand all the fucking replays of highlights of this shit, even today.

AND for anyone to call this a "classy" event. OH MY FUCKING THOR!

The uniforms look like the wooden nutcrackers you put under the Christmas tree or on the fire mantel. And Big Bird would have bitch slapped the queen for her clear abuse of yellow. And all the fucking hats and absurd designer dresses look like stage costumes from an off Broadway play.

This wasn't "classy". It was tacky. It was like a bunch of kids playing dress up in Kindergarten.

AND DID ANYONE SEE PRINCE HARRY'S HAIR? He looked like he was on his way to a Sex Pistols concert.

I've been to "classy" events growing up and in college, THIS was not classy. It was a circus sideshow.

Now that you've brought up the Sex Pistols, do you think they played this song at the post-wedding dance party?

Everyone has escapism, sure, but this goes way beyond escapism, this is mass hysteria, which sports and religions can have too.

Escapism is going to watch a movie, not watching it 50 billion times. I am a Reskins fan, but I most certainly wont fight an apposing fan.

I used to suffer from this "escapism" when I was a Pat Benatar fan, but that went way beyond merely enjoying her music. It was worship, just like worship of sports team, political party or god. The worship of this family is beyond escapism. It is unhealthy obsession.

I got over worshiping anything, and this family does not deserve to be worshiped, no one does.

I didn't see any of it on

I didn't see any of it on t.v. but, I watched some clips and saw pictures on MSNBC.

I think the bride stole the show and was the only one there with any 'class'.

I think little Gracie (my avatar) says it best.

That would cause complete anarchy in the UK.

 Heh. That secret service

Heh. That secret service fellow seems to be enjoying the view.

I can't put it better than Hitchens: I don't recognize the claims of the House of Windsor. The oggling over the wedding is inane & ridiculous, but what are we to expect from a family that still claims a divine right hold political office?

I wish Middleton & Louis well, but he's not a prince, she's not a princess and it's atrocious that anyone should be gloating so loudly about what they've spent they're stolen wealth on.

Quote:
"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

Despite what some might think of me here, I am human. Sandy, in all seriousness. I don't give anyone shit because I hate them. I give them shit because I am passionate. If you knew me in person, like my co-workers and family, you'd understand what a silly self deprecating person I am with a really corny and bathroom humor person I am.

There are very few people I hate. But there certainly are positions people hold I hate, even if I like the person.

I am glad we agree on something, and I am certainly sure if we knew each other in person, we could find other things in common, beyond what drives you nuts about my claims and what drives me nuts about your claims.

I simply refuse to see life as a script. And I don't make another person's position on one issue out to be all aspects of that person's being.

But that little girl really proves the reality that adults make a big deal out of mundane reality and how truly unimportant the event was to her.  Kudos to you for making that your avatar.

We can beat the shit out of each other in other threads, m-kay? Truce?(pulls back hand sarcastically).

And if you have any doubts about my ability to not take myself so seriously all the time, remember that I like shiny objects.

I'll admit that you wont give me cooties if you admit I wont give you cooties even if we think the other is full of shit on particular topics.

But since we both like shiny objects, yet another thing we have in common.

Honestly though, no one here has a right to bitch about me compared to my co-workers. If I had to put up with me at work, I'd kill me.

You think I am a pain in the ass here, my co-workers have more to bitch about, believe me.
