Final Destination, By Brian37

Final Destination, By Brian37

Cacophonies
And crescendos
Futile clamoring
Over purpose

The carnivorous
Jackals
Exit canals
Always ending in coffins

The ways in such
Are as varied
As modern cousins
Of megalodon

Ignoring the finite
Their lofty goals
Lead to riches
And power

And the meteor
Will, every time
With mundane spite
Kill the terrible lizard

Our molten core
Will eventually
Be as silent
As Mars

Yet still
We clamor and claw
In desperation
To make the mundane glamorous

To give it such names
In antiquity
Buried in false hope
Of nobility

Futile posturing
When all it has ever been
Is our nature
To find resources

To which is always morphed
From the dreams of the child
Into the nightmare
Of adults

Our starting line
And finish line
Always the same
Between being irrelevant

This acceptance
Is where peace is found
Where our compassion
Is fostered

I just read this to my mom

I just read this to my mom and she asked me if I was depressed. I hate this reaction from believers. My mom is Catholic, but this is the common reaction from people who buy into a non existent after life.

It doesn't mean we cant make purpose with our finite time. It is simply stating the obvious that we are finite. I said to her it would be like if I lived in ancient Egypt and said, "No that burning yellow ball is just burning gas, it is not a god", and they respond "WHY ARE YOU BEING SO NEGATIVE".

The other line I like the most in this is a warning as to why our species repeats the harm to each other.

"To which is always morphed
From the dreams of the child
Into the nightmare
Of adults"

It is a POSITIVE warning to break the cycle of abuse we inflict far to much on each other. In the fact that we inflict needlessly the tunnel vision of sedentary utopia traditions onto our children which sets them to grow up to conflict because they were sold absolutes.

By no means is this a cure because evolution will always produce a range of actions both good and bad. But merely as a tool to help reduce the conflict to make our common condition more the spotlight so we can foster individuality over tribalism.

The truth is not always pleasant, but when faced it makes it much easier to deal with life as it is. AGAIN that does not mean you cannot enjoy life just because it does have ups and downs and is finite. It just means that you don't need superstition to explain either the good or bad that happen. Our species will go extinct and eventually our planet will die and all life on it. That doesn't mean I am not going to not enjoy what I can while I can.
