I've always thought of being a "jew" as being an ethnicity.  I don't think an Aryan can claim to be a Jew if he/she converted to judaism.  Nor would a jewish person stop being a jew if they turned into an atheist.

I haven't read anything about the Nazis asking anybody what their religious beliefs were before they sent them to the camps.

Also I don't think a DNA test can tell you what your ancestor's religious beliefs were.  But hey, wouldn't that be interesting?

Are you now obliged to get a partial circumcision?

I was under the impression that Jewishness was passed down through the female line.  The funny thing with dna and ancestry is that we all are a hodge podge.  I have persuaded my dad to do the genealogy thing and at one point it looked as if we had "Welsh blood" in the family which got a lot of laughs and sheep jokes but thankfully we weren't   At the moment we can trace some of our ancestors back to about 1610.

I suspect if I had a dna analysis done I'd resemeble a "Bertie Basset" i.e Allsorts!  (liquorice allsort - sweet)

 Yeah, I've read that too.  The thing is that this DNA test tested my aunt's mitochondria DNA.  So I have jewish heritage through the maternal line.
