My drawing class erupted into a religious discussion!

It was really fun actually.  I sit next to another guy (whom I would guess would be an atheist too) and talk about the fallacies of religion.  I guess a Christian heard us from across the room and chimed in.  She didn't believe in evolution, but Adam and Eve.  I meantioned something about the book of the Apochrapha (sp?) and of the stories that were "voted out" of the Bible.  Also I brought up some issues in the Old Testament about violence, slavery, and sexism.  She stated that since the New Testament came out, we don't need the Old one anymore.  I asked why an all powerful being needed to revise himself? Also about picking and choosing the "good" parts of the Bible, and leaving out the "bad" stuff.
I'm definately going to voice my opinion more, as I have found a few people like myself.  I had never really had many discussions with Chrisitians before, so I guess this is a preview of what's to come.  However, I've thought before... is it possible to (de)convert them?  I'm sure that religion is pretty ingrained into their heads for them to think for themselves.  I don't really want to be known as an instigator or anything.  I want to give people the tools to think for themselves, and to let them have an open mind.  Heck, if I never convince anyone else... nothing happens.  No fear... no suffering... no torture.  I want people to know that.
So, this ever happen to anyone else?

In one of the gaming

In one of the gaming communities I hang out in someone posted on the forums one day. It was some religous jokes that all seemed to end in "YOUR GOING TO HELL!" Everyone thought it was funny. I get bored sometimes and decided to start a debate on the subject. I was amzed how many people showed up posting on my side of the argument. It was good fun.

Yeah.  I'm always surprized

Yeah.  I'm always surprized at how many other people are atheists (or at least not religious).  The only problem I get though is that I get blamed for attacking peoples' beliefs.  They'll ask me to drop it as soon as I bring up some facts against their particular brand of religion.  It just proves my point that theists believe their faith without rational thought.
However... sometimes I think I could make a lot of enemies for speaking my mind.  But hey, so be it.  I would never refuse to be someone's friend because they believe in superstitions.  Heck, I'd even be friends with the Phelp's kids of the Westburo Baptist church.

I think about the enemy

I think about the enemy thing alot. I wanted to get some humorous atheist bumper stickers for my car. Then I realized Im living in New mexico which is a very catholic state and were rated as one of the most dangerous states to live in as far as violence and what not. So I decided not to get those bumper stickers.

It would indeed prove your point. Its a point Im not willing to try to prove myself. I can only afford to repair so many things ya know.

I was listening to the local talk radio on my way home yesterday. A question came up about if people think that children should be taught about god. A whole lot of people called. In the hour I listened to the show every person that called agreed that it should be taught. Its to bad public speaking scares the hell out of me or I might have called that show. It was a dj covering for the normal dj. I didnt like him much. The normal dj is alot of fun to listen to. One day he pissed off alot of people making a comment that had something to do with religous people and insane asylums. I tell ya I laughed a whole bunch of times on the drive home that day.

Sorry that part was a bit off topic. Tongue out

Well, I don't have any

Well, I don't have any atheist bumper stickers now because my car is crap, and I'll be getting another new (or rather used) car this summer.  In the meantime I do want to get some atheist shirts though.  Atheism is a part of my life now, and I want people to know it.
One thing I notice is that I hear of far more violence from theists against non-theists than vice-versa.  Even in history it shows us the same too.  I think Stalin was an atheist though... however I think it was more of political than religious motivation.

In the aftermath of 9/11, I

In the aftermath of 9/11, I was driving a 1988 Nissan Stanza that I hated.  I also wanted to test the paranoia and intelligence levels of people here in what I consider the greatest state in the Union, Massachusetts.

I got a flag from India (near as I can tell, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11) and attached it to my car.  I then went to work at my job at the mall.

Eight hours later, I needed to use my cell phone to get a different ride home.  The tires were slashed, windows smashed, headlights and taillights destroyed, and someone left a note saying that "Towelheads should die".

Remember, this was MASSACHUSETTS, home of intelligent liberals who recognize that gay marriage isn't a big deal.  It told me that psychotic paranoia is part and parcel of most people......and most people in the area are.....Christians.

The good news would be that the insurance company totaled my car and with the check I got, I was able to get newer wheels.

I was thinking basically

I was thinking basically the same thing, Susan.  I was thinking more specifically that it would have been good to have a video system on the car itself, but that's expensive.  Still, if you're going to have "controversial" stickers and such on your car, it's a good idea.

I really want to get buttons, stickers, t-shirts and such from places like EvolveFish.com (I love them!), and I do plan to, but some of them would provoke Christians and some others to say that I'm criticizing their religion, when they don't wear shirts that bash atheists or whatever (and if I haven't seen them do that, I'd have to take them at their word).  I would like to put some kind of obvious symbol or whatever as my avatar or in my sig, that represents my agnosticism, but some of my fave symbols (such as the cross in a circle with a line through it) would offend other members, and they could argue I was attacking their beliefs, when their crosses and religious quotes don't attack mine.  I've had my beliefs criticized, so I admit, I like to criticize back, although I try not to do it until someone attacks me first.

I also hate how people speak of "God" as if their god is my god and that I have a god.  I'd prefer they say, "My god...," you know?

I have both the darwin fish

I have both the darwin fish and the FSM emblem on the back of my car.  If I didn't live in Massachusetts then I might not have bought them for fear of my car.

I have had the darwin logo for almost a year, and the FSM logo for a month or so and have never gotten a look or a comment from anyone yet.
