I am an atheist.... Why?....

I have heard over and over again Theist's saying that atheists don't believe in god because they don't want to answer to him on judgment day. That we don't want to own up for our supposed sins.

I am not a perfect man, no one is. But one thing i can assure you is that I live my life with pure adherence to my values. My Morality has nothing to do with religion, but is influenced by common sense, love, respect. I live to do everything in my power to continually become the man I strive to be. A man that is kind, caring and knowledgeable. Through Inner Strength and pure resolve i have over come life's many difficulties. I have bowed to the stresses of life but I will never break. Adversity and conflict is just a part of the process of growing and maturing.

Why don't I Feel I need to be "Forgiven" By "Jesus" or "GOD"? because very simply history shows with out a doubt that religion is a man made device for control and manipulation. There for, all morality and supposed judgment in the bible is null and void. These words in the bible are written by men, NOT GOD, AND WAS NOT INFLUENCED BY GOD.

And the very thought of being told I am a sinner by the Judeo-Christian god is laughable. I have never killed a single human being, I have never encouraged genocide, infanticide, mass murder on any scale, slavery, rape, or other repulsive things such as the bible does.

Now lets put all religions aside and focus on the argument that there might be a creator who is not actively involved with our lives
( Deism ). Well I can not say that there is absolutely no such thing as a creator just as i cant say there absolutely is. theres no proof what so ever on both accounts. Maybe someday the living will learn that secret, maybe we wont. But the ones making the claim has the "Burden of Proof". i dont claim there is not a god i claim religion is compleatly man made and have ample evidence to back up my claim. When someone says that there is a creator i simply say theres no evidence to suggest that other than the human imagination.

But IF in fact there is simply a creator with no religious ties then what would be the point of worshiping him? or even bothering with the notion?

Why cant we just live our lives and try and be honest, caring, responsible and respectful beings? Doing our best to further mankind instead of our own greedy ambitions.

Mankind will always be at war with it self as long as we continue to work apart instead of together for the advancement of human understanding of our world and universe.

Religion is destructive and unnecessary. I cant argue that indeed religion does help some people deal with personal issues, but ultimately it hurts there understanding and warps there perception of life.

I have a question for you

I totally repsect your search for the truth. I was wondering why you think that you have to be a religion to believe in God? How does science for one moment stand in contradiction with God? It may make religion look bad, but religions are messed up, but can you not have God without religion?

Does this article have any truth to you? http://www.slayerment.com/blog/why-are-we-here-and-what-happens-when-we-die

Thanks!

I can't speak for everyone but, for an atheist, it is an odd concept to imagine someone believing in a god for which there are no descriptions or parameters. To profess that I worship a god in the absense of any explaination of who the god is or what it does is really just broadening the definition of god to mean pretty much anything. I can worship life as my god but I have not really identified a god, I have just attached the word god to my love of life.

It depends on what you mean by god. Do you mean the Christian god? I have seen logical people use the Bible to prove beyond any logical argument that this god does not, and in fact, cannot exist. Again, if you broaden the definition of god to unrecognizable perameters then there is essentially nothing for science to contradict.
