What paper?

What paper?
Edit: By the way, welcome!

Big surprise, it is the

Big surprise, it is the Peninsula Clarion in Soldotna, Alaska. Article is from January 29, 2007.

Obviously Sarah Palin isn't the only fanatic up there.

There are follow up responses that disagree with the original letter writer. Search their site for atheist.

If we are to go by

If we are to go by popularity then wiping out non-Muslims including Christians and Jews and atheists, must be the way to go.

I wonder if this author knows that the majority of the population of the planet is Muslim. So majority rules, right? Allah Akbar!

The paper probably isn't fundy at all

As a journalist and editor I can say with surety that running extremist positions like this is a great way to stir up additional comment - everyone does it.

As far as this position is concerned, what can you say? The founding fathers of America were not christians but humanists for the most part and it's

fascinating to me that the citizens of that country are able contort their bigotry and nationalistic sensations into such fantastic shapes.

P.S. Only 1.3 billion of the planet's 6-odd billion people are mussies and 60 per cent of them live in Asia. I read it yesterday in the paper.

Actually Brian37, according to The World Book Encyclopedia, Christians make up 33% of the worlds population, and Muslems are 20.0%.

 Someone just pointed out

Someone just pointed out to me that this article was a spoof...

 http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/atheists.asp

  • As the Clarion explained in a later editorial, however, the letter was intended as a spoof, one that did not originate with its sender: Weeks later we received the following letter from Ms. Shannon:

"While I've been thoroughly entertained by the overwhelming number of passionate responses to my January 29th letter, it should probably be noted that, as at least one writer speculated, it was a complete joke. I think it has run its course and at this time space in the Letters to the Editor section should be reserved for more important issues."

Now we were angry. Numerous attempts to contact Ms. Shannon proved the letter was a hoax, and we stopped printing any letters referring to hers. Shortly afterward, we received a letter from a person telling us the same letter was found in a blog from a woman from South Carolina, and he sent us the Web address.

We wanted our readers to know the story behind the letter.
  • Given the plenitude of e-mails we've received over the years expressing the very same sentiments as this letter, it (regardless of the intentions of its creator and/or sender) apparently does reflect the genuine opinions of a not insubstantial readership base.

A little too old to respond to then. Also explains why it seemed so familiar.
Even though it was a joke, I know there are people who would read it and agree with it, so it would have been worth responding to.
