Ubermensch

My Ubermensch

I believe, like one of my philosophical heros Nietzsche did, that one can attain such a supreme state of being that they should literally be a beacon to the rest of us on how to live.

Nietzsche defined this as someone who could be threatened by a demon from hell with having to relive their life over and over and over for all eternity and not flinch.

The Ubermensch would welcome life on permanent repeat.

Now I don't believe Nietzsche was right on everything, for one he was an anti-darwinist and an imbecilic sexist.

But he was also wise enough to be helping me write my worldview.

Who is my ubermensch?

My father, who told me that you must love that which you do for a living because you spend your life at work.

Marie Curie who wrote, "Nothing in life is to be feared, only understood."

The great teacher James Randi, who is a stage magician who has set himself to expose the frauds born of myths.

Susan Blackmore who is unraveling the truth of memetics. And has pink hair!

The character for Alexander the Great in Reign the Conqueror by Peter Chung, Alexander can only explain his need to conquer by saying, "I must keep advancing."

Natasha Cox, singer of Mankind is Obselete, who walked away from her computer industry job, to sing in a band.

The great Carl Sagan who taught the world to love science.

MariClaire Delguille, my grandmother, who was literally mourned by the communist party of Chile.

The author Sam Harris whose unbreakable calm makes him the greatest debater I have ever seen.

Emma Goldman, an anarchist who sought to derail the world in the early 1900s.

The philosopher Paul Kurtz who has literally written the book on all I believe.

The philosopher Daniel Dennett who hacks us a peek into reality, for those of us who are not afraid of the terrifying Dionysian void that drove Herr Nietzsche mad.

Michelle Bachelet, the first woman president of Chile. Gonads or not, that took balls.

Anton LaVey who created a religion using his carny background, and to this day it is the only organized religion I know of which utterly denies the existence of the supernatural. They also welcome taxation. What a great citizen this man was.

The character Grendel (Hunter Rose) in Matt Wagners brilliant comic. Grendel simply rules everything he sees.

The character of Paul Atreties in the masterpiece which is Dune by Frank Herbert, though Frank Herbert wrote if anyone admired Dune as a political treatiese "run from them." That is why Frank Herbert's Frankenstein creation made my list and he did not.

Sometimes the things we build in our laboratories are so much greater than us.

Thomas Henry Huxley, who single handedly drove the theory of evolution in to the eye of Victorian england, qualifies for my ubermensch.

The list is ever growing, and includes many personal friends.

My vision of the great overman, and since I am not a sexist, overwoman, is one of how you chose your lifestyle. Just like Herr Nietzsche's.

My ubermensch lives life like there is no afterlife.

Unlike Nietzsche's, my ubermensch has no time for the threat of eternal life in a loop they are to aware that this life is only once.

In spanish this is :

La vida es una sola. It is my motto.

Your life is a love story!

People tend to focus on a

People tend to focus on a superficial interpretation of Nietzsche's bolder statements (i.e. "God is dead"), and I think it may be the case here. I suspect hyperbole, but the idea that he was driven mad by his philosophy is an unsubstantiated one I'd rather not indulge. He was paralyzed by illness for a decade before his death. I dunno... just not a fan of these broad characterizations. This is a blog, and you can do what you want, though.

I've heard this before, it's called Eternal Return. I don't understand how Nietzsche proposed it would work.

When you repeat your life, would you know you were repeating? Would you have memory of the previous life and what would happen but you have no will to affect anything? Like watching the same movie endlessly?

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

Good Critique

Thats a good critique.

But I think his main point is that regret can only be cast away with passion.

If that isn't his point, its pretty close to the one I'm making.

Though for me wasting time is worse than regret.

Your life is a love story!

To LOL Ron

No, you are right.

I took a little bit of creative license there, maybe I shouldn't have.

I have the utmost respect for Herr Nietzsche.
