Debate

So I'm debating this guy in the Richard Dawkins forum...

...This guy, samurai.

Quote:
You don't understand...

If God had a plan and purpose, then, it is very possible for Him to be both IN IMPERFECT and PERFECT STATE of Being at the same time...with respect to His designated time. Why? Because He is powerful enough to do it!

I reply

Quote:
How does one be perfect and imperfect, hmm?
These are two contradictory states, how does one pull that off?
Because if you are not perfect, then you are not perfect.

And what is this "with respect to His designated time. " BS?
You limit his power to a strict time limit? If he has a limit, then he is not perfect.
if he changes, then he is not perfect.
period, please avoid this Schrödinger's god nonsense.

The changes bit is referring to this by the way...
Quote:
IT DOESN'T MEAN that a PERFECT BEING can't lower His standard...

Actually I think it can.
that would imply that his previous standard was wrong, thus making him not perfect.

But catching up:
I then think of this.

Quote:
Wait, I got it.

It's going to be a while before I can get it all in words.

Please hold

ONE:
God can't be both perfect and not perfect, He can't do this impossible thing, therefore he isn't perfect. In other words for this perfect being, not being perfect makes him not perfect.

TWO:
God is both perfect and not perfect, making god incoherent, therefore not perfect.

Just wondering what you think.
the second one is a bit wonky in my opinion.

HUH?

Wah?!  God is perfect and imperfect????  heh... uh... as a Christian myself for over 10 years I must say, that's a new one to me.

I agree, imperfection automatically cancels out any perfection claim, thus making it impossible to be perfect.  If one chooses to be imperfect though having the capabilities of being perfect, they are still imperfect.  That's my opinion.

a viewpoint

Whether or not something is perfect is an opinion.  If I think a rose with only one petal is perfect, it is. (if only to me)

If someone didn't like perfection, then something perfect wouldn't be that great to them.

I think you should argue about something definable.
