What you ran into, besides for a dangerous mentality, is the christian number one tool of that keeps them in power.

Create an environment that ridicules, and suppress non-christians. What they have done is drawn you out, and now they will probably start the process of publicly mocking you. Once they find a deviant of the norm, they usually like to make them a social prier as an example to others. This way they suppress competing to their comfort zone,  by de-legitimizing other differing opinions. This will either force others with different views back underground, or too suppress their ideas to avoid be persecuted.

I read a apologetics answer to that a while ago(like a fewe years) I don't remember much of it,but I remember it made no sense. Even though I was a xtian at the time, I still had no idea to answer the question afterwards. If I remember right,it was basically trying to say god exists outside of human reference and therefore can't be defined by human standards.

1) Ask them why, when Jesus was dying on the cross, that he said, "Father!  Why have thou forsaken me?"

Usually they will respond that Jesus was dying for humanities sins and God can not look on sin.

2) Ask them why Jesus had to die.  After they get over the whole bit about dieing for humanities sins so we can go to heaven yada, yada, yada... Ask them this.
