What am I?
Hello. I'm new here.
Interesting site. I look forward to interesting conversations here.
Let me introduce myself....
I was born in CA (but no longer live there) and grew up in the city.
I come from a family of modest means.
I was baptized Lutheran.
I went to Sunday School as a child and have, on occasion, attended church as an adult.
I'm a college graduate.
I enjoy art. Not into music so much.
I'm interested in nature and the natural sciences.
I've always been fascinated by ancient Greece and Greek mythology.
I'm a liberal Democrat.
I'm married, no children.
I have a dog. I love animals.
Based on the above information, do you think I'm an atheist or a believer?
Or, ask me for more information, other than "Are you a believer or an atheist?" of course. lol

I don't know agnostic....better yet here is a better question, are you a believer in a god or goddess or not, if yes, then which god or goddess do you believe in, if not, then your probably an atheist. Otherwise I will profess that all I can gather is that you are part of the western civilization and a US citizen, with a lutheran religious background.
I'm only asking if you think I believe in a god/godess of any kind or no god/godess at all.
Are you familiar with StumbleUpon.com? It provides a way of surfing blogs based on interests. When you surf blogs it shows you what the blogger's interests are. When I surf blogs based on interests like "Christianity" or "atheism" I notice some patterns in other interests. As an obvious example, you're not as likely to see "evolution" as in interest in a Christian's blog as you are in an atheist's blog. But there are tendencies towards other, less obvious interests too. I was just wondering if anyone here notices such patterns.

I just rather debate, but that's just me, I will go that your a non believer, however if you do go to church ya go just for social/appearance sake. But I bet others have different views. Again, I will just go with a common westerner
It's not that hard. Do you believe in a god? You're a believer. Do you not? You're an atheist.
Personally, I don't think anyone can be an agnostic. Check out this essay http://www.rationalresponders.com/am_i_agnostic_or_atheist
Welcome btw

Yeah, we stumble stuff all the time. So do you think there is a creator of the universe?

Don't you think it terrible that only Jewish myths can be valued by society? There are a lot of great stories in Greek culture like King midas, Pandora's box, etc... that are taught as pure myth, while the Jewish stories get factual status in society.

Are you wearing a blue shirt and pouting? If so, then you are an atheist.
Based on the OP, I have also managed to determine they are alive and likely human.

Out of the gate I would approach you with the assumption that you hold theistic beliefs purely based on going to church. Most likely a cherry-picker.
Welcome to the forums
Anyone that would post an introduction and then have the reader guess "what am I" ... personally, I see it as a strange but fun introduction, so I will play
Do you hold a belief in a god or gods or goddesses?
As you have gone to church every once in awhile as an adult, what are your thoughts on organized religion?
What role did the Lutheran belief play in your childhood
What degree do you hold?
Where do you live?
Have fun here on the forums!

I'm sure of what I am 100%. I just post the question the way I did to see if others could tell which side of the fence I'm on based on having or not having certain other characteristics and qualities.

lol...I rarely wear blue, actually. I love blue skies and blue water. But in my home and on my body I prefer warm or neutral earthy colors.

You might want to look more closely at the way my statement's worded.

Weddings and funerals? I think it's little odd to expect us to know what you are, especially with so little info. I would agree with Tarpan, that you seem to be leaning on the theist side, but can't really say. You're makin out to be more complicated than it is-really you believe or you don't.

So you believe government is should be your nanny and is obligated to provide you with peace, security, wealth and happiness just for being born. If you hold this delusion, you probably also believe there is a sugar daddy god that loves you and is obligated to provide you with heaven.

oooo oooo!
Let me play too.
I was born in Canada, lived most of my life in New Zealand and am now living in the UK. So do I prefer first person shooters or real time strategy games?
Well I can't answer the first couple questions or this wouldn't be much of a challenge, would it?
As for Lutheranism's role in my childhood I don't really know, at least not as far as Lutheranism itself is concerned. Not much I suspect since I don't really know what distinguishes a Lutheran from most other Christian faiths.
i have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
In the Northwest.

It'd be even less of a challenge if you just told us what you believe instead of playing some game

Theia,
I'm guessing you're the kind of person who prefers being the center of attention above anything else. We're actually very open to people with theistic beliefs here so long as they maintain some degree of humility and have something to say about the interesting subjects we discuss. Judging by your posts so far, I don't think you're much of an interesting subject.

Sorry I came across that way. I'm actually not one to like being the center of attention. I'm a bit of an introvert in fact.
I was really just trying to verify some of my ideas about what sort other characteristics go with being a theist or atheist but, based on responses here, it appears my ideas are inaccurate.
"The Bible looks like it started out as a game of Mad Libs" - Bill Maher
Then you are pouty?
And female from the name
People who think there is something they refer to as god don't ask enough questions.
Ah, I thought it might be fun to have a different sort of intro. I guess you don't like games much. But really, it wasn't just to play a game. As I said in a previous post there seem to be other certain characteristics that go more often with an atheist or theist and just wondered if that seems true for other people or it's just my imagination.
I'll give you some more obvious hints.
I believe in evolution.
I'm a member of the ACLU.
I have been to church in the past but it has been many years since I set foot in one.
I don't own a bible.
Does that make it easier?

Liberals believe that if you work hard and are financially successful in life you should have to give more of it away to help the poor that would rather whine about being poor than actually striving to get a decent education and job.

I fear regularly posting here can make you a little cynical in regard to people(theists) who make vauge threads trying to provoke reactions. You hate me already don't you
I think you might be a disgusting, immoral, empty, intellectually dishonest, alcoholic, dangerous atheist.Awesome

Conservatives subscribe to the myth that working hard can get someone out of poverty. Or maybe they don't really believe it and just use it as a lie to keep the poor from rising up as they should. Most of the poor do have jobs and work like dogs for next to nothing. Most of the rich just sit on their fat asses and make money off the people who actually work's backs.

Amoral, not immoral. Remember, without a god we are unable to even understand the concept of morality. If we can't recognize morality how can we choose to be immoral?

You're right.Without god I am unable to even get my words straight..
Anyway, hope you enjoy the forums.Glad you didn't turn out to be an annoying theist?..

Liberals are deluded enough not to notice all the people that have worked hard and taken the chances at doing what needs to be done to be successful in this world. They just whine that it's impossible despite the plethora of people that have risen above poverty.

I took a class in Greek in Roman mythology in high school. I made the mistake of asking the teacher why the Greeks' stories of gods are considered nonsense and the Christians' stories of a god were not. What was it that made the written stories of Yahweh more valid than written stories of Zeus, for example? He got quite angry and simply replied, "Because the Bible is TRUE!"
I think it was at that point that I really started being suspicous of religions.

Yes, I agree. That's why I admire those hard workin' blue collar millionaires like the Kennedys
There is a basic problem, although I might lean toward your seeing yourself at least as an agnostic, none of the above is actually evidence.
There is only one characteristic that distiguishes the theist from the non theist, belief.
Belief in evolution could very well mean you are an enlightened theist, MOST theist in the world do accept evolution as fact.
There are some theistic members of the ACLU, even a priest or two (or at least there used to be)
Not having entered a church just means you could be a dissatisfied theist.
Not owning a bible, in my mind points AWAY from being an atheist, most of us that I know own a bible, frequently several. (know thy enemy)
At any rate, no matter which side of the theological fence you alight, welcome.

I agree the evidence is not proof and, of course, there are exceptions to anything. As far as believing in evolution goes the enlightened xtians are not usually the vocal ones who would come here to debate issues with you. Regarding the ACLU, sure there are some xtians there. But there are a lot of xtian websites devoted to bad-mouthing the ACLU, claiming it's evil and anti-xtian and want to see it eliminated. As for owning a bible I refuse. I feel like I'm contributing to religion in some way by purchasing one. With the internet I can research most of what I need about it. It's actually more informative in some ways to research online because then I get to read all the widely different interpretations and distortions of biblical quotes as well. It gives some interesting insights into theists' ways of thinking.

I had two bibles, but when I finished at my christian school I left them there along with all my other stuff and never went back. I'd like to have one now that I've calmed down abit(I was a pretty new atheist when I did that) but I'm not going to actually pay for one. The internet and a notebook do most of the time.

You really don't need to buy a Bible - there's plenty of Christards who would love to give you one - just don't tell them you plan on using it against Christianity - or for toilet paper, cheap paper towel substitute, scrap paper, kindling, etc.

Cheap bibles for the traveling atheist: Gideon. They're meant to be taken.
You don't own a bible? Definitely NOT an atheist. 98. 2% (OK. I just made that up...) of atheists own at least one version of the bible. And we read them, often.
I stand by my response. Are you asking me to re-evaluate because you don't like my answer?
shooters
Sound like the majority of catholics to me.
lol, beat me to it.
Both this and the last pope both subscribed to Evolution openly, just not abiogenesis. Though it is true that they both lacked internet forum time.
I guess I have limited experience with Catholics. My sister is a Catholic (the whole family is still trying to figure out how that happened) and she owns more than one Bible, goes to church every Sunday, xmas, and Easter, believes in Creationism, and would probably flip out if she knew I was a member of the ACLU. She voted for Bush twice. (sigh)
